"To cut, or not to cut", that is the question...

Submitted by realitycheck on March 27, 2006 - 2:12pm.

About 7 years ago, my sister and I decided that we were going to grow our hair out for cancer patients. Last week my little sis got hers cut. They need at least 10 inches in order to donate it. Now I am debating. I do like long hair but it's so hard to maintain. Should I cut it?

Here's the best pic's I could find that show the length it is now. You may have to click on the image to get a larger size.

... but I also remember what it's like to try to maintain it. (I'm going to let you think about that one, for a few years maybe.) What's left of my hair is in a buzz, 'cause I'm real lazy. And cheap.

If you've got it long enough to meet your "cancer patient" goal, can find a style that you like, and there's no domestic or commercial reason to do otherwise, why not save yourself the agony and get it cut?

Hahaha!

Did O'Kelly just say he likes what he sees? Hahaha!

Does it matter?

Maybe I did. What'm I supposed ta do, tell an attractive woman she ain't? It's not like this is a dating service. If it were, my hit counts would be negative integers.

Oh no, nothing like that. :P

Though, I guess in the context that might be a little more graphic than intended.

If you really don't like the new short haired you, I could send over my friend thelma Joe. She is one sexy wig and would probably warm your head for free.

No cut. I appreciate the gesture and maybe I am being shallow, but long hair is sexy.

I gotta agree with the guys on this one... I've considered donating my hair also...and haven't done it yet because I'm not ready to part with my long hair :(

It is a pain sometimes... I know all too well, but I figure I've got the rest of my life to have short hair... and I just realized how horrible that statement sounds considering who you'd be donating your hair to...:(

So the verdict is to keep it long? It seems like I spend most of my days with it in a pony tail. Is that what most other long haired women do? or am I just lazy?

I wear my hair in a ponytail when I'm just hanging around the house... but if I'm at work or out somewhere, it's down... otherwise, what is the point of having long hair? ;-) If it really bothers you then by all means cut it...:)

Maybe you should cut it. It will always grow back, and maybe you'll find an in-between length that is easier to maintain. Maybe something with layers...

At least if you cut it in one big chunk you can donate it. If you go shorter and shorter over the years like I did, no one gets anything out of it (mine is shoulder length now - I found short hair to be more work than medium length hair).

Keep it long. I cut mine

Keep it long. I cut mine and I sorta regret it. I did it for exactly the same reason. I was tired of wearing it in a ponytail all day, and I wanted to donate it. Now it's just getting long enough for a ponytail after about 4 months, and I find that I am going VERY extreme in color for lack of options in hairstyle.

I should clarify though. I said I "sorta" regret it, because I've never done anything to my hair that I truly regret. It doesn't bother me to chop off 10-15 inches all at once, or to dye it on a whim. I do things to my hair that would make other women weep, and I have fun doing it. In the end, it will grow back so who cares. lol

My vote is to grow it out another 5 inches or so, and then cut it. Then it will still be long, but you can donate it too.

That's a good idea!
