We just got back from a two week vacation which was much needed even though in the beginning I felt guilty for going away to have fun. The kind of fun we actually had involved eating, sleeping and reading. It's got me thinking since that reading is probably almost as important as eating and sleeping if you are a writer.

What we read informs what we write, whether we acknowledge what we have been reading or not. While it is true that you're only really a writer when you write, it might also be the case that you can only become even a half good writer if you read the work of others.
