Things to Be Thankful for #487

family life | spiders

Here's something to be thankful for - it's been months since one of those horrifically big Huntsman spiders has been seen streaking through my house. Many moons ago I wrote a blog entry here about it. I'm too lazy to look it up and link to it, but of course YOU should scroll back and read it :)**

Anyway, maybe it's because it's hardly been raining at all and they were driven inside by the rainy weather we had for a while. That's what some people were saying. Or maybe it's because a few weeks ago a gecko moved into my house and they probably eat spiders (although perhaps not spiders that are bigger than the gecko. Hmmm). Either way, I don't care, I'm just happy as hell that I haven't seen Godzilla the spider trekking down the hall or across the wall or whatever.

I hope I haven't jinxed myself.

**Can you believe that in the "similar entries" tab over there to the right, my other entry on spiders showed up? So now both you AND I can be lazy, and no one has to scroll, because here it is --- http://bloggerparty.com/spiders . Handy!

Let's hope not!

I've also dealt with scary big spiders in the house and it's not fun! Yes, let's hope they are gone from your home for good!

Thank you!

I hope that's the case! The worst thing when you see a spider, I think, is when you realize that there could be lots more that you HAVEN'T seen!!!

mine were at type

of taranula that were always in the house except for the cold months. They'd get under everything - so you never knew if picking up that pit of laundry would have a wrotten suprize under it! It was pretty horrifying!

Oooo. That does suck.

Were they really all furry and everything?

kinda

They mostly just had really long legs, so they didn't look like the fat fury ones you normally see in movies. *shiver* They were a type of dessert tartantula. So-say they wouldn't hurt you if you got bit, uh, but who'd wanna find THAT out??????

Truly!

I don't even care if they bite, they are just GROSS!

my skin is crawling!

aaaaah! reading both of your spider accounts FREAKED me out! eeek! i hate bugs especially larger spiders and roaches. i cant imagine seeing a huge spider running across the floor or hiding under my laundry. that would be the end of me. total cardiac arrest.

the grossest thing i've dealt with in my home as an adult (had huge roaches in a house we rented when we lived in tampa when i was a kid) is this thing called an indoor centipede or something like that.....we were living in an old townhouse when we 1st moved to portland and one morning saw this enormous thing sitting above the phone. looked like a huge silverfish with millions of legs. never seen anything like it in my life and the bugger was FAST! hubby killed it though, thank god. gives me the creeps just typing about it.

i hoep both your homes stay bug free now!!

It would be nice...

It would be so nice to live in a bug-free environment, but in my neck of the woods, that's not going to happen. Sigh.

Silverfish are creepy in their God-given size. I can't IMAGINE a giant one!!!!!!!

I've seen one of those!

I wonder if that's what was in my hotel room in Atlanta?

I had a million legs and it was like maybe 3-4 inches long, and silver. It happened to be near the phone there too.

I smashed it.

We have centipedes in our house sometimes and they are really, really tiny. They also seem to stink when you smash them. I employ the "grab them up with a paper towel and throw the whole towel outside method." It avoids killing them AND avoids stinkin' up the joint. It's a win/win. :)

Just one of the reasons!

Just one of the reasons I moved as soon as my lease was up! Once I was in my apartment in town, I never again saw a tarantula or scorpion in the house! I still can't believe that I was able to handle it as long as I did. Really. I'm with you, modelmom, in that spiders scare me anyway - but big ones under my laundry or whatever else in on the floor????? Again, I don't know how I lived there as long as I did!

Spiders in the laundry

I rented a place with alot of those huntsman spiders in it. Moving your towel off the back of the bathroom door and having a spider race away is just awful! I used to joke that these spiders were so big that we could hear them coming.

I just looked at a pic of them

Those things belongin nature not in a house. They look very scary and hairy. Down South I saw a Brown Recluse in the corner. I left that room and slept on the couch.

That's not good

Brown recluse are scary. The big spiders are gross and really give me the willies, but at least they aren't going to make my skin rot off.

I've found two black widow spiders in my lifetime. That's a bit scary as well.

They probably don't live in Portland

I'm thinking that you're safe.

But look under your pillow when you go to bed just in case ;)

lol!

Well, it was UNDER the towel, so that when I took it off the door the spider scurried away. I believe some swearing followed that episode, I must say.
