China will investigate a slave labor scandal in one of its poorist areas - where poverty and unbridled growth have made extreme hardship a normal occurence for locals.

The Chinese Ministry of Labor and Social Security is sending a team to investigate the Hongtong area of
Shanxi in central China. State media has claimed that up to 1000 minors may have been forced to work in slave-like conditions. The Xinhua news agency said 'the team will find out the truth as soon as possible and we will go out and rescue the workers who have been forced to work as slaves in the brick kilns".

Me thinks they protest too much, because local residentss and state media have pointed to official complicity in the unfolding scandal.State TV accused one kiln owner of killing a child with a shovel!

to get Xingtaio's take on this one, since he's there. My take is a lot like yours; I believe they've known about things like this forever, because almost nothing gets missed in a Communist state of government, and they allowed it because it served their purpose. I wonder why they're doing something now, though.

What do they think they have to gain by doing something about this now? I'm sure we'll notice some kind of connection soon enough.

China even admits that there has been a human organs spareparts trade. Why would they even admit that too? The Olympics are coming, the Olympics are coming. Any connection?
