These Folks Don't Have A Clue

diversity | dreads | Iraq | Religion

Okay, this isn't going to be one of my most sensitive posts ever, but it's something that just has to be said. These religious folks in Iraq, or, well, we might as well bring in the entire world, are starting to get on my last nerve.

The latest thing is this news story about Iraqi Shiites going out and protesting against the news channel Al Jazeera because they supposedly did a news story on the leadership qualities of some "special" Iraqi cleric.

Now, sure, I can understand how someone might not necessarily be pleased that someone questions anything about someone they like, but to suddenly pop out into the street and start a protest against anything like they do is starting to get really ridiculous. I mean, just how quickly can these people keep getting insulted to the point that they have to go out and find someone to protest against, to burn in effigy? Can't any of them find a sense of self worth and just not care what someone else has to say about them?

You know, try organizing a boycott campaign, write a letter to the editor, turn the channel,... stop the protesting, stop burning stuff, and just shut up!

I'm not sure that I understand much of what is

happening in Iraq now. The Iraqi's have the choice to do something about it - but the fighting continues. Will it never end?

Unfortunately, Tottie,...

I don't think it will ever end. They obviously derive a great benefit from the behavior, and as long as they do, they have no real reason to change.

I agree Catfish~They are Mostly "Clue-less"

folks. It is equally pretty clear,to me at least, they don't need much of a reason to car bomb either, or individually strap explosives to their bodies, blow themselves or whomever happens to offend them straight into whatever infidel free 'kingdom to come' it is they believe in.

They unfortunately can't seem to buy a single clue even with all the millions of dollars sadly sent that way by our United States government either, or the 3,551 plus-(todays uncounted deaths)of our American soldiers lives lost there, just so they can protest in those streets.

Makes me ponder...what 'clueless' actually means in Arabic... if these actions don't speak loudly and clearly enough for most of them.

And I hate grouping people, 2cat,...

but in this case, it's a group mentality that's doing all this stupid stuff, which is why I wrote about it the way I did. I mean, all this burning in effigy stuff, the "let's shoot our guns straight up in the air and celebrate" stuff, the "they talked to Americans so they're bad" stuff,... sheesh!

Now, what I'm not necessarily upset about is Al Jazeera finally getting bad press in an Arabian country; maybe sometimes they actually can pass for true journalists, eh?

Funny Thing or Maybe not Catfish

for a short while during the very first of the "Irag" conflict I went to that site several times. My reason was to try and get the Irag perspective on all that was happening and being reported by the media here. I soon got the impression the press from them was as biased and one agenda sided as some of the American press...needless to say I don't bother reading their type of Islamic 'propaganda' anymore. I'm not in the least sad about the bad press Al Jazeera has gotten...heap it on their heads and I hope those firey coals burn just a little sense into their hazy brains, I say.

I agree also with your very good point mentioned of "not grouping people." I do believe there are some of the people of Iraq who do not become involved in these kinds of demonstrations, and for the most part will be very happy the day all unrest there has ceased, and they can try to live a "normal" life again...whatever that means to them.

A reccent press release I watched said that doctors, professional people, or the more educated in Iraq were being targeted for killings and many have been killed and their families...the why??.. was not mentioned, but my opinion is that it is far easier for certain of those sects to manipulate the uneducated by eliminating those who can think for themselves and might otherwise speak out against them, and their methods of mass mind control.

It's a very sad thing the way some of these power hungry groups operate in this world of ours, both here and abroad.

Best to ya' Catfish.

I don't care what they do as long as they keep it over

there. It is interesting that they use radical fundamentalist religious doctrine to convince their people to fight off the US oil attack and the US uses our Constitutional freedom as the excuse to go get it. The dukes are at it again using the people through propoganda to get richer and stay as rich as they can. At the top of both efforts: super stinking rich interests. Will anything ever change really? Cry for the people we are all being duped and used by the rich again.

Well, you know PW,...

sometimes you just have to get straight to the point. I think that, if some of these folks had something else to do, they wouldn't be so ready to go protesting so much and so often.

interesting talk

Maybe you should live there for a couple of years or maybe just start with a day oh gee how about trying to live in down town New Orlenes

Catfish's picture

First, Sahra,...

if you're going to try to get at me by bringing it up, at least spell New Orleans properly. Second, I'm a minority in America, so I know a little bit about oppression. Third, I've also lived in a slum, so I know something about poverty, or at least living around it.

I also know about people who don't have a clue. If one protests all the time about perceived slights, at some point it means absolutely nothing at all to anyone. Kind of like the story about the boy who cried wolf; ever heard that one? If not, read it, then come back to me with a more informed opinion.

And maybe try a period, or a comma, or some other punctuation. At least you used the capitals properly.

Catfish I can't believe I missed this one!!

Sassys

I would say "Start LEARNING, start READING, and put the matches away, kids and fire are a bad mix" I get your point, but then again we are talking about a country that has been living in the dark ages SINCE the dark ages...they burn stuff because they just learned that it's easier to burn shit then it is to hurl stones. It will take education and a shitload of patience before any real changes take place...and we need to get the hell out of there already!

Catfish's picture

That we do, Sassys,...

but they do have television, and even if they've been living in the dark ages, getting an understanding that going out and protesting at every single slight makes the process mean absolutely nothing in the end. Not that it means anything now.
