The Value of One's Soul, cont.

Religion

"Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun: But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many." (Ecclesiastes 11:7,8)

Every day brings us closer to the grave and to eternity.
Our strength will not last forever. From the moment we are born, we are staring death in the face. We are like a vapor. Here today, gone tomorrow. Some hang around a little longer than others, but eventually we shall all go.
What preparations are you making for departure from this life?

Death is something we don't like to think about. Then again, why should we? Many of us have a full life (or so we think, ahead of us.) But, we never know what tomorrow will bring. Poverty, sickness . . . death. It is important how we live every moment of our lives. Let it be known that we will be held accountable for every thing that we do; every word we speak; even every thought that we meditate upon. "Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment." (Eccl. 11:9)

What we do in our youth affects us in our old age. If we don't take heed to our diets when we are young, i.e. eat chips and doughnuts and drink soft drinks all day, we can be assured we will suffer some physical ailments later in life. If we don't take care of our spiritual man (yes, in our youth) we can also be assured that we will have some serious troubles to deal with later in life, and even in the afterlife. Why are many old people so miserable? If they had given themselves to God when they were young, let Him lead and guide their lives, share their cares and bear their burdens, it would be a different story altogether.
We are stewards of this life God has given us, and one day we are going to have to give Him an account of this same life. Woe be unto the man that did not take heed to the value of his soul! We are not going to get away with anything we do in this life. It would be better to own up now. Confess your sins to God and ask Him to forgive you. Let Him know you want a changed life. It's either now or later. Later may be too late. You will not be able to plead your case at the judgement. What we reap, we will sow. If we give ourselves to bad things in this life, we will reap bad things in the afterlife. If we give ourselves to what is good and right, so we shall reap an eternal reward. What shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
