I usually wake up around 9 in the morning to have plenty of time to open the store by 10. Today I woke up a bit early, so I figured I could use the extra time to work on some accounting stuff I had been putting off for the past few days. Even with the extra half hour, I still managed to be late. Not that it matters since it is usually dead (with the exception of the old ladies looking for the law offices two doors down from us) for about an hour or so when we first open the doors. Not seconds after I unlock the door, a familiar face is making his way across the street. I like to call him the urban cowboy. You would understand if you saw him. He is a stout man, that always wears a cowboy hat, tucked in t-shirt, a belt buckle the size of his head, blue jeans that are way too big, black boots, and spurs. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the bright red handlebar moustache and the beer gut the size of a small child. I swear this guy waits in his car outside the store everyday, and if there is ever a day that we open a few minutes late, we will hear about it.
Urban Cowboy "Running a little late today?"
I didn't feel like getting sucked into his trap today, so I just said hello and went about my daily routines. Eventually he made his way to the counter to ask about his stuff on consignment.
Urban Cowboy "Is my John Lennon Lost Tapes here?"
Me "Yes, it has been sitting on the rack for a couple of months now."
Urban Cowboy "It wasn't here last week."
Somehow I knew he would come in and check on it the couple of days I had taken it home to list it in our eBay store. I triple checked the value of it when I took it home, and found that it was only worth $30 -$40. He wants $100.
Me "I took it home last week to list it on eBay, but now it is back on the rack. You need to lower your asking price on that LP, it isn't worth that much."
Urban Cowboy "That's what my buddy got it for down in Dallas."
My Inner Thought "Your buddy is an idiot."
Thankfully he said he had to run because there were groceries in his car. Spoiling milk has saved my day again.
