The Truth of the Japanese Americans: 442nd

A story that many people don’t know about is the brave members of the 442nd Combat division. The 442nd was made up entirely of Japanese Americans who wanted to fight for their country and show that they weren’t traitors.

Yeah it doesn’t sound right huh? They were fighting for the same country that just finished putting their families into a four year prison. These people were true hero’s in my eyes.

My mother’s uncle was a sergeant who gave his life to save one of his soldiers. He died in France at the battle of Banzai Hill (what the Japanese Americans call it). Even though they were outnumbered, the 442nd, pissed off at losing my great uncle, charged the hill and took it. He received two medals: The Silver Star, and the Purple Heart.

There is even a book written in memory of him. The book tells more in depth the story of the Japanese Americans and their struggles. The book is called, "Silent Warriors", by: Jack K Wakamatsu.

This is some of the stories of the Internment camps and the 442nd. There are many more out there, but I only wished to share some of my families history with all of you.
