The Truth About Simon Cowell's new show - American Inventor

Submitted by myspaceoryours on March 16, 2006 - 6:26pm.

I've been seeing the previews for this new show, American Inventor, which debuts tonight. It's kind of like American Idol... but with inventors instead of performers. Anyway, of course American Idol's Simon Cowell is involved in it... in fact, it's his $1 million that the winner of American Inventor will receive.

So, I was pretty psyched about watching this new show, because the premise of it seemed pretty cool. And of course, the clips of auditions that have been airing are pretty funny.

Well, today I ran across a website "American Inventor Television Show is a SCAM and a Rip-Off!" put up by someone claiming to have insider information about this new show. Mainly about the fact that although the producers want you to believe that the panel of judges actually traveled around to all the individual cities to see the different auditions, they were really all shot on a sound stage in LA.

He also claims that the producers manipulated contestants into believing that they were being chosen for their inventions and not just on whether or not their audition would make for good TV.

Shocking? Not really. After all, the auditions have always been one of the best parts of American Idol. So, of course the producers of American Inventor are going to try to create the craziest, most outrageous auditions they can.

Should they have been upfront about it? I suppose. But who really believes anything you see on TV these days? Even the reality shows are partly scripted... the producers are always behind the scenes moving the show along in the direction they think will make for best TV. And we eat it up....

Will I still watch American Inventor? Yes... I want to see what it's all about. If it sucks, then that'll just free up my Thursday nights for more blogging. ;-)

I too was really excited about this show. I really didn't even realize that it was a "Simon Cowell Show" until I saw the credits. Here's my feelingas though -
I liked it. I thought it was more educational than other shows. I liked seeing so many different inventions and hearing all the stories.
Like with any "reality TV show, there's a lot of smoke and mirrors. Did you see the special about reality tv? About how the infamous "Board Room" in the Apprentice isn't real. About how people on Survivor get peanutbutter sandwiches? About how on The Real World they set you up for failure?

Ya know, that would be an excellent blog. Somebody whould write about "Is reality tv REAL?" ...

Anyway, I liked A.I. (Not to be confused with the other A.I. being American Idol.).

Oh, and I'm going to link your American Idol/Inventor posts to my American Idol post.
