I never thought of Moses as a song writer. He was the guy with the big stone tablets with alot of thou shall nots written on them. He is also known as the one who fled Egypt only to return and confront Pharaoh and eventually led Pharaoh and his army to a painful death by drowning. Moses was a lot of things and did a lot of things but I never knew he wrote a song, but he did.
In the book of Deuteronomy, Moses and his people had come within site of Jordan. On the day Moses turned 120 years old, God told him to write a song so that the Isrealites would remember the message. Deut. 31
Moses being Moses, did exactly what God told him to do. He wrote a song. Then he delivered it to his people. Shortly thereafter, he died.
This must have been a very important song. I can't think of too many things someone 120 years old on their birthday might do. But writing a first and last song should be very memorable.
The song can be found in Deuteronomy 32. It is prophetic. And as I read it, the Holocost came to mind, then the book of Revelation. Should the Song of Moses be remembered? Perhaps it is the most important song ever written. Perhaps it is more important than the other things we remember about him. because it isn't too often God asks a 120 year old dying man to write a song.
