So, you've decided to write erotica/porn because you're not doing so hot with your other work? Scrap that idea. Erotica writers are not the cast-offs of the freelance world. I've said it before and I'll say it again - yes, you can write erotica/porn and still be a good writer. Of course, you can write erotica and be a crappy writer, just as with any other type of writing.
The important thing to remember is that the rules of good writing still apply to you.

Since I've started up Inky Blue Allusions I've been looking into other sites that publish erotica and truthfully, I'm appalled. No wonder erotica writers get a bad rep!

If you've decided that you are serious about writing erotica, here are a couple of tips to being considered a serious writer:

1. Edit your stories. Then edit them again. Then have someone else edit them. You can not write a story and then start sending it out the next day. Just as with any other type of writing you should let your story sit for at least a week, preferably two, before you go back to edit it. You should not try to edit it all in one read through. Narrow it down to a one or two types of editting. Edit for spelling in one go through, then grammar, then readability (reading out loud or to someone really helps with the latter).

2. Structure counts! Just because you're writing with the intent of turning someone on doesn't mean that you can let things like paragraphs and sentence structure slide. They are equally important. Personally, I think they are even more important because if a reader gets distracted because they don't know who is begging and who is doing the demanding it is going to be pretty difficult to turn them on!

3. Take pride in where you choose to publish. Yes, it may take longer to get published this way but good publishers, well paying publishers, don't want to publish a writer who has only published stories on sites that don't care what the writing is like as long as the words hard, big, and throbbing are used often. If you are selective about where you submit your stories you will eventually be considered a serious erotica writer. This is a good thing.

Good luck!
