The race among VOIP service providers.

I could not suppress my facination for any advanced technology in communication.

It is probably because I still witness very poor development in telecommunication in India, in spite of top technical expertise. It may be due to the brain drain.

As per the Telephia's Total Communications Survey for Q2 2006, Vonage occupies number 1 spot in the VOIP market share with nearly 54%, closely followed by Verizon VoiceWing and AT&T with a 5.5% share each.

SunRocket followed with a 4% share, while Lingo had a 2.6% share. NetZero Voice rounded out the top five with a 2.5% share.

Vonage was able to capture such a large market share mainly due to their aggressive advertising.

But more than 12% of all VOIP subscribers are likely to leave their current VOIP service provider for another supplier within a year.

Rankings for the top pure-play VOIP providers are based on subscription services, and exclude free or pay-per-call VOIP services, according to San Francisco-based Telephia.

I will continue to follow what is happening in this area.
