If you are familiar with Laura Kightlinger, you know her raunchy, sarcastic brand of stand-up humor. Even if you haven't seen her work the stage, you have probably witnessed her work as a producer and writer on Will & Grace (as well as in the recurring role of Nurse Sheila). Of course, her work was heavily-tempered on network TV. Now Kightlinger has a starring role in her own show on IFC and it's far truer to her bitter, sardonic personality.

In The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman, Kightlinger plays what is basically her alter-ego, Jackie Woodman -- a bitter, frustrated, struggling, actress trying to make it in Hollywood. While the premise certainly isn't groundbreaking, it's the stars that make this show, and they shine.

In Jackie Woodman, Kightlinger finally has a vehicle for her stage persona and the perfect opportunity to lampoon the business, and she does so mercilessly. Minor Accomplishments is hilarious and Kightlinger and co-star Nicholle Tom work well off one another. Given their personalities and the tempo of the show, it simply would not work on network TV, where the censorship of standards and practices and forced linear development would stifle it. Minor Accomplishments is a perfect fit for IFC, and a great lead-in to their other new sit-com, The Business.

I only saw the one episode, Cult Classics, which played Friday night, but I really enjoyed it. I'm not sure if this was the pilot or if I missed an episode, but it preceded the debut of The Business, so I'm pretty sure it was. Either way, it already seems well-polished and I'm really looking forward to seeing more.
