The Jena Six

Who says we don't still have a race problem here in America? You should see the stuff I get that I don't share; I'm sharing this one, though. I thought it was bad enough a couple of years ago when the high school kid in Georgia got 10 years for having consensual sex with someone two years older than she was; here's something else, way more current:

I sent a letter to my Congressman about this one Catfish

Sassys

It is truly disgusting the TOTAL, OBVIOUS bigotry on this one! Those poor kids first get humiliated, then get put in prison for daring to fight back...it's like living in the 1950's for gods sake. UGH! I think if MLK were alive today this would be a reason to march and SCREAM at the top of our lungs. The white kids that started the whole thing should face time in prison. The black kids who are being accused of "attempted murder" should not be facing ANY charges. It's ass backwards. And enraging.

True, Sassys,...

unfortunately, it's what happens. Minorities get things dismissed all the time. In another online forum, I told a brief story of something that happened to me Saturday night. I was at a restaurant where the owner came out and greeted everyone in the restaurant except for me. One person dismissed me, saying I was reading and the guy probably didn't want to bother me. In essence, he interrupted every other table where people were talking to each other, was rude in that sense, but he had too much courtesy to greet me? Please! But that kind of thing happens all the time, both sides, and I'm in the north.

You're right, our Catfish.

No argument here. This is a disgrace. What else can I say? I can tell a few stories, myself...And I am definitely in the North.

Unfortunately, humanity seems doomed to repeat errors of the past, as there seem always to be folks who never learn. Some do not want to, while others are in complete denial that there are yet bridges to cross, and gaps to close, with regard to the lingering presence of racism.

It is easy to dismiss, isn't it, when one is privileged not to be the victim...Thankfully, there remain people with sense. We just need more of them, within the institution of justice, among others arenas, where racial inequity continues to thrive...

For sure, IOAW,...

We deal with it, then we move on.

My Jena Six

I seen some of those videos with a girl named Jenna. They gave me a six. A straight six, you know what I mean? Just... just putting that out there. Not the straight six, I mean, just the... yeah.

Another update to the Jena story,...

is that the appeals court threw out some of the convictions on the one kid, saying they should have been in juvenile court, not regular court. They've upheld the second degree assault conviction, though, saying it gets to stand because of two previous convictions in juvenile court on the same charge. At least it's a step in the right direction.
