So we never have really gotten down the introduction to a blog. Im Aaren, and my mom is Diana. Im 18 and shes 43. We've blogged together for quite some time. A lot of people read our blogs to see both ends of the story. We touch on basic topics, politics, and the top headlines. Also, quick explination for the name Monumental Basement, its to describe our blog. The differences in our opinions. For the first blog my mom picked the topic.

Topic: Bi or Not?

I do not support my daughter's decision to say she is "bi". I dont think that the girls that say this are old enough to understand the weight of what they are saying. They want to look cool and be popular. Not be that way for the rest of thier lives. The fact that my daughter decided to join this group disheartens me greatly. I do think that a lot of girls go through this. And it is a phase. And soon it will be over. Just not soon enough.

First of all, I would like to start be saying I think that picking this topic was a total attack. (No Offense Mom) But what my mom doesnt seem to understand is that it is not her place to infringe on someones happiness. Also, I am not bisexual. I am a lesbian. It is not a phase. I will love who I love and she cant make me love anyone. I accept the fact that she is unhappy with my decision. But I cant change how I feel to fit my mother's preference. And I do agree with some of what she said. Yes, some girls will say that to gain popularity. And yes, for them it is a phase. But for others that sincerely mean it, it seems unfair. A lot of parents dont know what to say when your son or daughter says "Im Gay" or "I think Im Bi". Its simple. Tell them you love them. Even if you are shocked or you dont believe in it. All you have to do is tell them you love them. They need to hear it. Coming out is hard! We're scared as to what youll say! Give them support. Dont punish them for loving.
