What factors determine if life is exciting or not? I am anti-social and by the standards of many people my age... boring. But those are probably what makes my parents think I'm the perfect daughter. I don't party, I don't do drugs, I don't smoke, I don't drink much (just an occasional glass of wine), I don't go to clubs and bars, and I don't have sex. My idea of fun is shopping for books in the bookstore, going to the theatre, watching a movie, and shopping (window-shopping included). The only time I'm out late is if it's midnight madness in glorietta and I would rather be home with a book and a cup of coffee than be at a hot-shot party place with all-you-can-drink booze. A lot of people would say my life is pretty boring. But who's to say that it is? A combination of loud music coupled with alcohol isn't exactly my idea of fun. In fact, in my own perception, the 'normal' people are missing out on a lot. The only world they know is this one. They see the world as it is and accept it as that.
Many people have never been to other realms like Hogwarts or Middle Earth or Narnia (sure, the movies are there but nothing makes you experience a whole new world like reading a book). Magic disappears by the time they discover make-up. To some point I feel sorry for them. Frankly, I think it's more exciting to wake up as a warrior-princess and enter the belly of the steel dragon known as the MRT (Metro Rail Transit) and triumph over your villainous boss. I would certainly prefer it to being the popular girl who parties all night and gets all the hot guys.
To those who have accepted reality as its is, limitations has begun to set in. People tend to say things like: 'fairy tale romances don't exist anymore' or 'ito lang ang kaya ko, eh.' Being immersed in fantasy has allowed me to become idealistic and to belive in the impossible. Hey, I still believe I can win a Nobel Peace Prize and not a lot of people can do that (believe, I mean. not necessarily win the Noble Prize).
"Too much sanity may be madness,
but maddest of all is to see life as it is,
and not as it should be."
