The Demise Of The Lighthouse
Are lighthouses a thing of the past?
Nothing stirs the desire for a vacation along the Oregon Coast more than a photo of a picturesque lighthouse standing high above the sea, just waiting to guide lost mariners through the storm.
The romance of that lighthouse still remains, but the actual need for these lovely structures, has, because of GPS, a modern technology, almost ceased to exist.
In some places, obsolete lighthouses have been razed, but in others the unique buildings have been turned into tourist attractions where visitors can take tours, climbing the stairs to look out on the ocean where an awesome view meets the eye. A few have even been remodeled inside to include a room or two for rent to visitors. What better topic for a school report next fall than, “I Spent My Summer Vacation In A Lighthouse.
