The Davinci Source Code (part 1)
Well as a first post Im going to be ambitious and start posting a list of works of art and otherwise wich relate to some of the religious historical revision process, indicated on the davinci code, and hopefully in the upcoming movie adaptation
well at the top of my head the Golden oldie of this, would defintely be Umberto Ecos the name of the rose book, and its movie adaptation featuring sean connery.
The story itself is more of a whodunnit murder tale, were a franscican monk takes on the role of detective to uncover the culprit of a series of murders, however all of this takes place in the 14th century in a monastery, housing, what for the lack of a better word, can be called a "convention" between the franciscan order and the popes envoys , during wich the subject is to decide wether or not jesus owned his purse, and therefore wether the fransciscan atitude torwards material posession was heretic, or not.
Although a work of fiction "the name of The rose", is considered to be a very acurrated description of the decision making process in wich the curch edited and revised its history and dogmas to better suit the powers that be, in thousands of simmilar meetings as the one described in the book, the book itself is considered to be somewhat complicated and far too heavy on the historical information for the general public (ex latin inscriptions bonanza) , the movie however is seen as more light yet still pretty acurate adaptation of the story, and considered historically acurate, and is shown In most highschool history classes as a sort fo "docudrama" concerning the middle ages (well at least portuguese highschools)
for those of you with both academic training in the subject and knowledge of this work, what are your opinions on it?
(next post I'll aproach a book called "suns of god" from one acharya S, It seems interesting enough but I inabillity to verifcy most of its references makes its credibility shaky (again any word from people with academic knowledge in this matter would be greatly apreciated)
