The initial reaction to the Da Vinci Code coming from Cannes is not so encouraging. None of the journalists, at the first press screening, were impressed by the film scheduled to open on Friday around the world. Critics after critics only had bad remarks on film.
Critic Todd McCarthy of the Daily Variety wondered
how such a script could be accepted by a Hollywood studio. Kirk Honeycutt of Hollywood Reporter had even severe harsh words. He says “the movie is so drenched in dialogue musing over arcane mythological and historical lore and scenes grow so static that even camera movement can't disguise the dramatic inertia.
Anyway we audience will be getting our chance to make our views on Friday. Films that have failed to impress critics had in the past impressed audiences. But some viewers will have to be content with pirated DVDs and CDs as some governments are planning to ban the film or at least make the necessary cuts as directed by Christian organizations.
