One of my favorite foods is definitely watermelon! There is nothing like sitting outside in Yoyogi park on a warm summer's day with a bunch of friends and digging into a big green watermelon!! Have you ever seen a Japanese square watermelon? They're quite unique and there's a good reason behind them!As you know, houses and apartments are quite small (including mine!) in Japan. Because of that, we also have small furniture - including the refrigerator. Large, round watermelons can be quite difficult to store so some genius Japanese farmers invented a way to make the watermelons grow into a square shape!! How cute is that!! A square watermelon is much easier to store than a round one and saves a lot of space. "How much do the cost?" I hear you ask......well try about a $100!!!!! Even a round one is about $18 normally!! Takai!! That means 'expensive' in Japanese.

Of course, as it's winter now in Japan, I can't buy one yet (I have to wait until the summer) but I think I should start saving my money now! Would you believe Strawberries can help you save money?
