The Best Valentine's Day Gift EVER

crappy gifts | gifts | Valentine's Day

Ok, I should be embarrassed to even post this, but previous posts got me to thinking about it. I have never been a girl to receive a lot of gifts ~ even on Valentine's Day. Sure, I'd get the obligatory heart-shaped box of chocolates, but if you know me at all, you know that really sucks in my book. I also despise the heart shaped pendants no matter what types of jewels are thrown onto it. And, why? Because it shows no effort on the givers part. I always make the effort to buy gifts that actually suit the person receiving them, so I have never understood why I cannot expect the same in return.

But, there was that one year.........

This was with my first husband ~ I was barely 20. We'd gone out shopping together and did that "sneaking off" to get each other's gifts thing. When we arrived home I couldn't wait to see what he'd bought me! You see, he had such an air of excitement about him that I just knew it had to be something good! Or, dare I say it ~ great!

So, loving to prolong the anticipation like I do, I gave him his little thing first. Honestly, I don't even remember what it was. He took it graciously, though I could tell that he didn't really care what I'd gotten him ~ he only wanted to get on with giving me mine.

So, you can imagine my crushing disappointment when he handed me a heart-shaped box of chocolates! What the hell??? And, then to make things even worse, he then hands me the bouquet of cheapie flowers! Oh my damn! How badly does he suck???? Flowers??? Chocolates???? What an ass! But, the shine in his eyes never left as he watched me closely. What is that stupid grin about????

Grudgingly I looked closer at the flowers and noticed something kind jammed down in them. *shock* *gasp* It was the cassete tape (yes, I said cassete tape!) of The Cure's 'Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me' that I'd been wanting. Well, oh my damn. He actually did make the effort to get me something I actually wanted instead of going the easy route.

And he just about fell on his ass laughing when I saw it! It, of course, had been his plan all along to make me think he'd been cheap and thoughtless! I tell ya, all these years later it still makes me smile to think about it!

Even if there had been no tape, Spookyyank, you would

have been blessed far beyond many women in the world. (Of course I adore chocolate in any form and if I got flowers AND chocolates, I would really feel loved.)

Thanks, Jeanne

I suppose it is how one looks at it. I have come to love chocolate, but still don't think it's much of a gift ~ well, unless it comes from one of my kids! lol
Of course, I'm still bitter over the fact that I've never been SENT flowers by a man. And, I know plenty of women who find that silly. :-)

I'm all for jewelry. And

I'm all for jewelry. And I'm completely okay with it being cliche. :D Furthermore, there's a box of chocolates I've wanted for several years now. It's from Godiva, and it's one fancy-ass box of chocolates.

This year, we're not doing Valentine's Day. We kind of did it early. We rented a couple of movies, got some cherry limeaide's, bought a bottle of wine, we are getting a new apartment with a lake view, and he took me to vote. Awwww. ;)

I like chocolates

for the box. It's a corny thing of mine, but if a guy were to put together a cool box with the types of chocolates I like, I'd so be into that! LOL But, it's more for the box than anything.

Ah, cherry limeaides! I LOVE those! Hot Dog on a Stick??? They have the best cherry limeaide. And, the rented movies and all that sounds pretty nice. And, that's what I'm talking about. To do something that we (if there were a we ;-p) would both actually like, rather than the usual route where no one makes any real effort.

Go check out Godiva's "G

Go check out Godiva's "G Collection". It's for hardcore chocolate aficionados. It's part art, part chocolate, and the pieces look like semi-precious stones rather than chocolate. lol I think they even used to come in a mahogany box. (And the price is the reason I haven't gotten to try these.)

I personally like Sonic for their Cherry Limeaids, but I know that they aren't in every state. I was raised on Sonic. lol

You're mean IG!

I was all set NOT to visit the Godiva website and had even been deleting their tempting to look at emails! But, now I have no choice to look. But, I wonder if they're anything like the arty ones they have that I've been wanting to try!

Ya, something like a cool Mahogany box or even a cheap, yet unique cardboard box that I can use for other stuff - letter storing is the first thing to come to mind, but no one does that anymore :-(

Oh, of course, Sonic. I forgot they have them too! Though, I became really fond of their breakfast orange juice thing. I've never been too fond of their food, but always liked the variety. But, actually, I think Hot Dog on a Stick has cherry lemonaide.

Probably the same.

They've had it for a while now, and they used to do it only around Valentine's Day. Now, I think it's all the time, but I could be wrong.

I like cigar boxes for the same reason. :)

awwww!

i think that was so sweet of him! i never had much luck while i was dating when it came to v-days. but my husband one year got me a chocolate themed spa day with massage, mani and pedi and a chocolate martini. that was awesome, but it was before we had kids and we actually had some expendable income!

That was awsome!

I'd love a spa day! A regret of mine that my sister and I didn't when I had the money for it. But, I think that's one of my problems with the day. We are taught to have theses expectations, yet it's really the day to day stuff that should count. I swear, I'd be in love forever if i met a guy who somehow, in some small way, let me know he loved me every day. That's what I'm holding out for! lol
