The Alphabet of Apple to Yahoo - the letter of the day is A

Well, although I did indicate my status as a habitual news junkie, I love many other things including technology. For many techies out there, the MacWorld expo was on this week and the unveiling of the new Intel powered Apple computers. For many, this is nothing big or even new but for observers of the consumer tech industry its mind blowing stuff. Who would have imagined 5 years ago. Mactel - the alliance of Apple and Intel. Is this the first indications of the eventual demise of the Windows dinosaur?

The incredible time it takes for Microsoft to release a new op system, its 5 years since Windows XP was released. This length of time is tantemount to an eternity in innovation terms. Apple releases new updates what appears to be every few months. I don't own a Mac but with the clever and innovative designs of Mac computers, its no surprise that the market share is increasing albeit a small but growing %, in a slow market. I for one, am one of those individuals that considered a PC owner only and poured scorn on the Apple, (it's a fruit not a computer). However, I cannot deny but the lure and functionality of Mac computers is appealing when I have some money to splurge.

Will I keep a PC, probably not, I don't really play video games anymore, a compelling reason to stay with PC's and all my other needs for news, sports and tech news plus graphic design and photography are easily met plus I get a better designed computer.

Mactel...

My blog a few days ago was about Macworld and the new iMacs. Right now, there are three working computers (and two that don't really work anymore, lol) in our home, including my fiance's G4, which I actually use more than he does. We also have a PC with an AMD 64 bit processor, and most recently a laptop with a Linux partition. If you are looking to get a Mac, you should keep your PC and perhaps set up a partition for one of the free Linux distros. It's a bit harder to use, but it's secure and a lot less problematic than Windows, not that any OS is without it's problems.

Mactel

You raise some valid points. My PC is a AMD 64 3500 so it has enough power. In terms of using Linux, I've considered that option, I recently purchased an old HP Jornada 820 basically for nothing and there is a group of hard core Linux fans doing a port for the Jornada 820. Certainly, it would be an option to consider.

If only Apple would release a proper MAC PDA so I could use my PocketPC as well. Well, that is my wish list for tech for today

Re: Mactel

That's one great thing about Linux. You don't have to have the fastest, most high tech equipment. Linux will work on an old machine that would be rendered useless with Windows XP.

As for a Mac PDA, you never know. Apple is developing new products all the time. Maybe we'll see one in the next few years. Who knows?
