David Crocket reported in one of his journal entries, that they raised a flag with a single star during the battle of the Alamo, in 1836. You can only speculatre as to the thoughts that each individual was having when the Flag was Raised over the Alamo with just a Single Star. To stand alone and face certain death for what you believed in, to lay down their lives alone against overwelming odds, that Single Star represented Texas The Lone Star State.
The Alamo was not the beginning of the Single Star, The Long Expedition of 1819, The Austin Colony of 1821, are some of the others before the Alamo. The Republic of Texas also had many Single Star flags. Some other historicle dates to the Single Star. In 1824 the Lone Star flag was flown during theBattle of Conception, in 1835 the Lone Star flag was flown again at the Seige of Bexar.
General Sam Houstons Texian army carried the Lone Star flag during their campaign for the LoneStar State. What did the Single Star represent, a single state standing alone against all odds, the wish of Texans to be accepted into Statehood with the United States. One can only speculate as to the actual reasons, maybe it represented Texas as the Lone Stae of Mexico trying to uphold its rights under the Mexican Constitution of 1824.
The pride of Texas a Single Star flying into battle alone against all odds of winning fighting to be free, the very symbol of what America stands for. Freedom, General Sam Houston texian army fights against General Santa Anna and the Mexican army, defeating the Mexican army at the Battle of San Jacinto. The Lone Star Stae is it any wonder you hear the term "A Heart As Big As Texas".
