Tell me how this is fair.

I finally decided to get serious about losing weight. I've been eating nothing but boneless, skinless chicken breasts, steamed veggies, and brown rice, and drinking nothing but coffee and water. I've also been doing about an hour of exercise a night. And my weight has stayed the same. WTF??

Word is, Victoria Beckham eats this exact same way, and that bitch is so small that a size 00 is baggy on her. I don't want to be a 00. I'm perfectly happy to get down to a 10. Maybe eventually a 6-8, but I can wait for that. But how in the hell is my weight staying the same, when I'm eating nothing but steamed carrots?!

Stupid ass metabolism.

LOL, IG, I feel your pain!

I lost 20 lbs just like butter melting and then nothing....nothing.....NOTHING!!!

Here are some tips that may do absolutely nothing for you but they did help me.

Be sure and eat a very substantial breakfast to get your metabolism started. Your body will not start burning stored fat until you give it something new to work on.

Don't eat after 6PM - nothing. You can drink stuff that has no calories, fat, etc., like tea, flavored waters (as long as they have no calories), etc. This one was very hard to get used to but after a couple of weeks it was no problem at all. I don't even get hungry at night, anymore.

Make sure you are eating some fat. Yes, fat. Butter, avocados, nuts, etc. Not alot but give your body something new so it will let go of all that fat it's holding on to. Also, the good fats help your body work better so, it burns fat better.

Work out before you eat. This gets your metabolism pumping.

Work out several times a day for 5 or 10 minutes at a time - walk a couple of blocks, run up & down stairs, whatever. This gets your metabolism pumping and gets it burning more fat while you go about your daily routine. Working out at night is good but you go to bed so soon afterward that your metabolism doesn't keep up the pace long enough to burn as much fat as it would if you worked out earlier.

Incorporate weights into your work out. When you have more muscle you burn more fat constantly. So, pump up those arm and leg muscles, make yourself more beautiful and burn more fat at the same time.

Yeah, I know, we hear this shit all the time. Everytime someone wants to write an article about weight loss they say these same things over and over again. But they really did work for me and they also made the routine easier to maintain after I lost the weight.

Oh, and for snack time, celery. Your body actually burns more calories chewing and digesting celery than the celery has in it. Unfortunately, I like mine with salt so, then I have to deal with the water retention. But lots of iced tea helps with that.

if I have to eat celery, I'd rather keep the weight on. I detest the stuff. :D

O well, I remember seeing an article that listed

Pussy Willow's picture

3 or 4 different foods that took more calories to digest than they actually contained. If I ever run across that article again, or something like it, I'll let you know. I just remember celery cause that's the one I chose to eat.

There's a bunch of them, PW.

IntricateGirl's picture

There's a bunch of them, PW. They are called negative calorie foods. So far, it's unproven that they actually burn more calories than they contain, because of different metabolic rates. But the theory is that if you have something that's very low in calories and high fiber, your body will use more calories trying to burn it than are in the fruit or vegetable. At any rate, they are very good for you (it's just celery that I object to). :)

There you go,

Pussy Willow's picture

you've done your homework. I seem to remember one or two items on that list that I objected to, as well. Celery isn't one of my favorite foods but it doesn't bother me all that much and it gives me something to chew on.

I've always had the best luck taking off weight when I've worked fast paced jobs. Even when I worked at the call center, I at least didn't put on the weight I thought I would! LOL But, I also brown-bagged it!

Good luck! I've been putting on weight that I'll need to take off soon. Let me know what worked for you, ok?

ROFL!

IntricateGirl's picture
IntricateGirl Says:

A) Working on it. I use my elliptical, but I do it on an extremely tough setting so that it's more resistance than cardio. I'm also setting up my home gym, if I can figure out where all the bolts go.
B) Who says I don't already?? :D

I lost 50 pounds...wanna know how? I did not stop eating the foods I love, NOPE! I ate smaller portions and walked two miles a day to pick up my kids from school! The weight literally melted off of me. Maybe because I stopped worrying so much about it, but I did learn a trick or two...one, SMALLER plates! Try this and tell me what you think ok...Blindfold yourself when you eat your next meal (try not to poke out your eye with a fork) and then when your body feels full stop eating...then take off the blindfold and you will be amazed at how much food you DON'T eat! Try it, it works!

Now, that's a good idea!! I

IntricateGirl's picture
IntricateGirl Says:

Now, that's a good idea!! I have been thinking about switching to eating off a saucer, and I'm already trying to do the 5-6 smaller meals thing you always hear about.

I've stopped using the elliptical for the time being. The weather has been great, so I've gone for walks the last two days. Yesterday, I walked about 4 miles. Today, we walked to Target, which is about a mile away. We got some Gatorade for the trip home, and I carried a big bag of potting soil the whole way home. lol Yesterday, I was worried because I ate nothing but crap, but this morning when I got on the scale, it was pretty good news. So maybe it's working. 'Course, I've got a blister on my heel from it, so I doubt I'll be walking tomorrow.

It's so bloody frustrating. The weight used to melt off, and now that I actually crave and eat REALLY healthy foods and work out a lot, it's not budging. Even as recently as a year ago, I would work out 4 times a day for 15 minutes at a time, and I dropped at least 3 lbs a week, without any changes to my diet. Now, three weeks of nothing but steamed veggies, brown rice, and water, and I weigh exactly the same as I did when I started! lol Not fair!!!

When we deprive ourselves IG

Sassys Says:

http://bloggerparty.com/blog/sassys

it never ever works! Stop eating like you are a rabbit and start eating what you love. Just eat less of it. It really does work over time because you are not unhappy and you don't eat to "show yourself" how to be happy! LOL. I was a skinny bolink my entire life then I had kids and ballooned up to 190 lbs. I stayed that way for years until I decided that I was miserable enough to do something about it. But I was equally determined that I would not deprive myself of any of my favorite stuff... and this was before it was the popular way to diet.

I actually am eating what I

I actually am eating what I love. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that I love it. lol We had Taco Bell yesterday, and I hated it. Give me a spinach pizza, and I'm a happy girl. :D I don't know when I turned into such a granola muncher, and it's driving my kids and husband nuts, but I don't feel deprived.

(And I do have the occasional spoonful of ice cream. :D )
