television is no good for babies
so, I was reading a reecent post about a mother trying to keep her child away from the TV, and it reminded me of something...
there are many videos intended to provide a learning experience for infants and young children. I'll tell you something right now: if you think that buying these tapes will somehow give your child an advantage in the real world (i.e. school,etc..) then you need to think again.
Studies show that infants and young children gain most of their early learning experience from interaction with objects. Playing a video or sitting your child down in front of the TV for extended periods of time will just get your child hooked on TV screens or computer monitors.
This post is not meant to try to correct or reprimand the blogger that inspired this post, I'm just trying to be informative... She obviously is doing her darndest to raise her child correctly, and she should be commended for restricting her child's television viewing.

I agree, infact it's possible that it's my post that you're speaking of :)! A child can learn so much more from doing rather than watching. I limit my daughter's t.v. pretty strictly. Luckily she's only 1 so she normal has no desire for it. That said I think it's also important to consider the fact that I only have one baby, I'm a stay at home mother and I have the time and resources to keep her away from the t.v. , not all mothers are so lucky. I'm just trying to make it clear that I'm not calling anyone a bad parent. we do the best we can. right?
