Teenager Repellent

new products | NOISE | teenagers

Well, this is a first. Seems there's a device that's called the Mosquito that repels teenagers. Supposedly this device emits a high tone that kind of sounds like a buzzing mosquito, but for the most part it can only be heard by teens around age 15 to young adults around 23. This is because they still have sensitive hair cells in their inner ears.

It originated in Europe, where businesses were looking for a way to get teens to stop loitering outside their establishments, and of course anyone looking to make a buck will come up with something.

And, of course, this has caused controversy in those countries, and in some communities here in America as it's starting to ramp up in many places. The accusations are cruelty and a violation of civil liberties. Some communities have banned it outright, but some communities have welcomed it as a way to keep the peace in some places where kids gather and fights occur all the time, especially after football games.

My thought is that they probably could have accomplished the same thing by playing opera or some other stuff, but I guess it's better to intrude on some people than all people. Frankly, I'm not quite sure where I stand on this one, and this just means I'm getting older. I never hung out anywhere as a kid, but I knew there were places where they did hang out, and sometimes fights did break out. Yet, if I knew I was being targeted specifically for who I was, rather than my doing something wrong, I'm not sure that I would like it all that much.

Still, it's an interesting concept; I wonder what they'll come up with next.

Actually Sire,...

according to the story, if someone is wearing an iPod they won't hear it, but it also said if someone listened to their iPod often and loudly that they might not hear it either.

No real triumph, Sire,...

because it means they've somewhat damaged their hearing, which could lead to bigger problems later on.

I dare say the teens

I dare say the teens wouldn't see it that way. Once they get wind of what is being done they will find away around it.

It would seem, Sire,...

that most of them have no clue what's going on initially, because the adults can't hear it, so they think the kids are making it up. But they just go somewhere else.

Last time I checked the TOP BEST teen repellent was their parents:( I like the classic music idea better though...a little Mozart goes a long way, and for those of us that appreciate good classical music it's a win-win:)

You're right, Sassys,...

if we could get the parents to hang out with their kids more, that would take care of the loitering.

Actually, I was going to say Frank Sinatra or Barry Manilow music, but I like them also. lol
