Does anyone remember Teddy Grams cereal? It was so delicious. I was talking about it with a co-worker today and decided to make a petition to bring back those delicious bears that were amazing as a breakfast cereal.

Nabisco still makes teddy grams snacks, but not the cereal. The cereal had a different texture and got really soggy and delicious with milk. So I made a petition and passed it around, and everyone laughed. But I was serious. oh well. Perhaps I'll write to nabisco myself.

In other news, my dad moved the new computer off of the desk, since he says it "takes up too much room." riiiiiiight. Anything to control and stop me from doing what I want to do.

Today my mom was complaining about her job (as usual) and my dad said "well I would have just told the lady to get the hell out..." and I said "that's why you don't work in customer service."

For the most part, my dad has never really had to take orders from anyone at work or had to work at a crappy job that he hated. And he is not college-educated, he just has a ton of experience in construction, engineering, and all the related fields.

I, on the other hand, am very educated, and I've had so many crappy jobs because the job I really want requires a masters degree. Currently I am a dispatcher, and it is one of the few jobs in my life that I enjoy.

Your dad sounds like a Maine lobsterman

And in Maine the word is "lobsterman". Or "fisherman". She'll black your eyes if you call her anything else.

By that I mean experienced and skilled in his craft rather than formally educated. Prepared to tackle any challenge head-on. And not prepared to take any guff from anybody. Especially not any of those effete, useless Ph.D.s. Crede expertum. And doubly especially those moron politicians who dare to mention the word "regulation". Very controlling types. Hmm ... has he been reading any of this stuff?

Sorry, don't remember Teddy Grams (Teddy Grahams?). I go back to when Cheerios actually still contained measurable amounts of oat flour.

Good to know

Yes, that is my dad to a T. No, he hasn't been reading any of this. He does not take the slightest interest. My parents won't support my choices until I have my actual finished book in my hands. They do not see beyond the present. They don't have faith in me. And so it is my greatest pleasure to prove them wrong.

That sounds a bit like my mom. She think past her own problems long enough to listen when I tell them what I'm working on. My dad is more supportive and actually listens to what I have to say. Don't let your family drag you down. You are quite talented, and giving up would be a great waste.

Oh, and those "crappy jobs" you mentioned in your blog are a part of life these days, even for those of us with a degree. But it's only a stepping stone.

Having parents like that just makes success that much more enjoyable, so I can rub it in their faces when I do succeed :)
