Team Obama fumbles the ball

Barack Obama

Team Obama has the football on Team McCain’s 1-yard line, first down, goal to go, near the end of the fourth quarter. The game is a scoreless tie. Team Obama is about to score the winning touchdown as time is winding down.

John McCain
Then, Team Obama calls time out. Coach Obama puts in a substitute, an aging, seldom-used running back named Biden. Now, up to this point in the game, Team Obama has held its own. It hasn’t scored any points, but it hasn’t allowed Team McCain in the end zone either.

Joe Biden
So, Biden lines up in the backfield, takes the handoff – and gets hammered by a Team McCain linebacker named Palin and fumbles the ball. Palin picks up the ball and runs it back 100 yards for a Team McCain touchdown. With the extra point, the score now stands at 7-0, Team McCain, and the two-minute warning has just sounded.

Sarah Palin
Team Obama can still get back in the game, maybe tie it up with a touchdown and extra point and force overtime, or even win it with a touchdown and two-point conversion.

Hillary Clinton
However, the clock is ticking. Can Team Obama ultimately climb this mountain? And what about Biden? Bench him?
If so, there’s a game-breaker named Clinton ready to come off the bench and save the day.

Decent analogy. Except I'd
Decent analogy. Except I'd give Biden a little more credit. But to reverse that statement a little, I'd put much less importance on Biden and Palin. One of the main things that's going to cause Team Obama to fumble is if they attach a lot of importance to Palin. Obama needs to get some of his coolness back, and if asked any questions on Palin, he defers with, "Well, I don't know much about her, and I was under the impression Sen. McCain was at the top of the ticket." She should be such a non-issue, and for the Democrats, the best strategy isn't going to be how to point out how wrong she is. You want people to be unable to recall her name in three months, not quote her entire biography.
Clinton could go after Palin, but again, it only keeps the focus on Palin, which isn't working so well right now. And I think I read that the DNC is going to run ads against her, which isn't doing Obama any favors, in my opinion.
McCain is probably sitting at his best numbers right now. If he can keep his convention bounce (which is rare), he'll barely win the presidency. But it just feels like Obama has room to improve where McCain probably doesn't. Two more months, eh?
Yes, but ...
... even I'm surprised at the sticking power of Palin so far. She has turned the tables on the Democrats as a conservative feminist, if there is such a thing. It's eerie and surreal.
It's just amazing
I've been marveling over this for two days now. I think this is evil genius at it's best! What began as a media frenzy and shock over what most people consdiered a bad move on McCain's part has actually helped him to over shadow Obama! IG is totally right! Everyone needs to shut the hell up about Palin because it only gives McCain's campaign more steam and more support. They've actually managed to put her in such a spotlight and position of media power that everyone's pretty much ignoring Obama's campaign. And, to make matters even worse, his own suppoters are fueling this fire by making her their enemy number one.
And, that move of waiting to speak to the media - my damn! They've managed to make her the most talked about person on the planet. Now, what's needed is a major shift away from keeping her in the spotlight and a major effort to get Obama back into it. Yep, evil genius! How else can it be explained?

Yeah, initially, I thought
Yeah, initially, I thought she was a horrible pick. I mean, she took away McCain's argument against Obama's experience and his thin resume. Then I had a mini-epiphany. She didn't take anything from McCain. Instead, she took from Obama.
See, as soon as you start talking about Palin's short career in politics and how she came out of nowhere like that's a bad thing, MOST voters minds immediately jump to the thought, "Yeah, just like Obama. Except that she's in the number two position and he's at the top." McCain isn't going to stop hitting any of his points. He'll adapt them. Meanwhile, Obama has nothing to criticize her with because he'll end up looking sexist, and she perfectly balances his weaknesses.
Now, I would argue that her weaknesses are more pronounced in the same areas. But it doesn't matter. We've been hearing for months how Obama has little experience, no foreign policy creds, and a thin resume. As a society, that connection has been drawn. So, bring it up now, and Palin is going to come out winning it. Besides, a VP's sole purpose during the campaign is to take hits that the Presidential candidate can't afford to. Biden can come out and say that the pig reference was directed at Palin, AND it's not the only pork up in Alaska, but Obama can't. Palin knows how to take a hit, and I don't care how much you hate her, you gotta give the girl that.
Let's go with the boxing analogy. The best strategy is to let her swing at you while you duck and dance. She'll wear herself out, and you're just getting started.
Great point ...
... that every negative attack on Palin will boomerang and sting the Dems even worse. It's a no-win situation for Obama.
The Media is raking in money keeping her in the spotlight
In the meantime, her weak points such as her interview with Gibson should be highlighted. She didn't even know what Bushes policies are. That's important. What I can't understand is why she is off limits and Hillary isn't. Hillary has taken hit after hit and is still standing. If pitbull Palin "can't take the heat, she should get out of the kitchen".
Hillary took "hit after hit"
Hillary took "hit after hit" because she ran for President. This woman, in this cycle, has run for nothing. She was asked to join a campaign and she did.
And while you're right that the media is making too much money to ignore her, if the public stops buying every stupid line that's spoonfed to them, the media will stop feeding them. By keeping her flaws in the news (and they are multitude), it is keeping her in the news. Keep her in the news, and McCain will be sitting in the White House in January. She is the best thing that ever happened to him, and any media is good media for him because he has nothing to lose. Want Obama to win? I believe the best way is to pretend like McCain still doesn't have a running mate. Want McCain to win? Keep talking about her- positively or negatively- it does not matter.
And yet you choose to give credence to APO IG?

Seems to me you have the wrong idea here.
Well that's not a surprise, Sassys.
And it has nothing to do with Apocalypto. Since Palin was announced, Obama's numbers have dropped significantly, and he is no longer favored to win. Cover your eyes and deny it all you want. It doesn't change a single thing. Attacking Palin is not working, and I believe it will cost Obama the election.
And attacking Apocalypto simply because they disagree is extremely immature. I've had more than a few rational conversations with him, but more and more, it's difficult to have one with you.
Never ...
... have I cared for Hillary, but I will say this: She would be a hell of a President. She is a hawk and would jackstomp the Iranians in a heartbeat. Obama made a colossal mistake when he picked the idiot Biden instead.
Too bad ...
... Oprah has chickened out!
