The Best Outfit EVER! Portland-Style
Submitted by ModelMom on January 16, 2008 - 8:18am. cold weather | fashion | faux pas | haute couture | Oregon | Portland | winterI just dropped my son off at preschool and it is a particularly chilly (the news says freezing) morning. Everyone on the street that I drove by was bundled up to their fullest capacity and clutching something warm to drink in their gloved hands. But I have to say that one person, one high school girl, in particular almost had me run my car off the road.

That time of year
Submitted by mapiklfish on March 26, 2007 - 1:27pm. spring | summer | weather | winterI'ts that time of year again. Spring in Wisconsin. I'ts been in the 70s the past couple of days with record setting highs today. We were predicted to get up to 80 but didn't quite make it. We topped out at 79, at leats here in my neck of the woods. I think that I heard the record was 76 in 1906. Trees are budding and the grass is getting green. The horses are going up in the pasture again looking for grass. It's a beautiful day today.
The Cherry Tree's Year
Submitted by gellybaby on January 9, 2007 - 12:07am. NATURE | winterToday is a grey day in our valley, not cold just grey. The huge cherry tree outside my window looks spikey and spiteful, its leafless twigs poke angrily into the grey sky. The wind is ruffling the few dead brown leaves which cling defiantly to its branches. Looking at the cherry tree today it seems incredible that in Spring it will be a mass of blossom and that soon its green dress will be so sumptuous that I won't be able to see the other side of the valley from this window.
An Indian Summer
Submitted by gellybaby on November 9, 2006 - 4:46am. spring | summer | weather | winterIt is a beautiful day again in my corner of France. The sun is shining on "our" valley and as I look out of the window the sunlight is bouncing off the beautiful scarlet, oranges and golds of the vine which covers our home. Some days I really wish I was able to paint the beautiful things I see around me.
My cupboards are full of jars of the various jams, chutneys and pickles that I have made from the fruit and vegetables that our garden produced this year. The wood that we shall need when winter really comes is ordered. The heating oil will need to be ordered next week. We are preparing for winter and yet the weather seems more like Spring. Outside it is twenty degrees centigrade, very pleasantly warm.
The True Story Of The Leaves
Submitted by o ceallaigh on October 20, 2006 - 6:55am. autumn | leaf season | Maine | maples | O Ceallaigh's Observations | oaks | winterThe news reports all proclaim that the “leaf season in Maine is over. “Past peak blazons from all the TV news reports and weather websites. The leaf peepers can all go home now. Or south to the next big display.
None of them tell you that there isn’t one leaf season in Maine. There are two.
The first one starts rolling down from the high hills in early September, and reaches the Maine coast around Columbus Day. It’s the maple season, the time of the gaudy reds and day-glo yellows and pumpkin oranges. The headliner showgirls of the fall extravaganza. The ones that bring in the cars from the cities, and the Winnebagos from places where “frost is no more than a hoary old metaphor. Their display is vibrant, brilliant, famous, brittle.
