I am submitting this wonderful article by Bob Herbert. It reveals the character of our present leadership and reveals how little the Republicans have supported our troops from the very beginning. it also reveals how there has been very little dissent among the Republicans in Congress even when it all boils down to humanitarian issues.

There are many among us, myself included, who do not support the war in Iraq. But, I think it’s important to put our opinions and agendas aside to remember that flesh and blood, human being’s ~ our own people ~ will be away from their families come Christmas and Hanukkah.

We are being told that the USA needs to stay in Iraq to maintain peace and order. If that is true then WHY is the body count up? If adding more US forces is supposed to terrorize the terrorists, then why is Iraq losing twice the number of people to terror?

Conditions in Iraq keep going from bad to worse. As the number of American casualties grow, one can only wonder when Bush will admit he was wrong and allow Congress to bring our troops home.

The responsibility of the war seems to fall on the same people over and over. Their deployments are being lengthened because there are not enough new troops to fill in the numbers.
