I am always telling writers to get into travel writing. There is money to be made. However, you need to understand the industry. You cannot just start writing about your vacation, or a place based on pictures.

I started planning early, to give me topics to write about, and learned very quickly that I saved myself a lot of grief by planning early. There are so many things to take into consideration when planning a trip that go far beyond 'do I buy cheap luggage or invest in Samsonite luggage?'

It not only gives you a sense of travelling and creates a 'mood' for your articles, but it also gives you something to write about.
