The Death of a True Hero...

Submitted by Pancho Villa on December 12, 2007 - 2:46pm. CIA | Iran | Iraq | president bush | tortureA CIA agent has now confirmed that the United States used torture to extract information from al-Qaida detainees. At the same time he was careful to remind the congressional oversight committee that the United States does not torture. The United States uses an “enhanced interrogation technique”. By this reasoning people that holdup stores do not rob stores, they are in effect using an “unauthorized acquisition technique”. And people that murder someone do not really murder anyone, they are in effect assisting in an “early demise technique”. Our prisons are not full of prisoners, they are full of‘detainees”.
Torture in West Virginia
Submitted by Catfish on September 11, 2007 - 7:01am. Racism | torture | West VirginiaSee, I talk about racism and some of the things that happen to minorities that don't happen to other people all the time, and people like to dismiss those things.
So then, what about this story about a black woman in West Virginia who was kidnapped by up to 6 people and tortured for a week, until, luckily, the police got an anonymous tip as to where she might be?

Will Rumsfeld go down without his diplomatic immunity?
Submitted by lpferris on November 11, 2006 - 10:21am. prosecution | Rumsfeld | tortureThe BBC reports that ex-US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld may face abuse charges in Germany for personally authorizing the illegal torture of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba and Abu Ghraib in Iraq.
The Center for Constitutional Rights, a US based group, will file the motion to prosecute on Tuesday. Apparently the way that German law works, they allow the persuit of cases originating anywhere in the world, which makes Germany a perfect place to persue this case now that Dumsfeld no longer has diplomatic immunity.
On The Increased Incidence Of Cruel Torture In Iraq. (by BigBadJohnny)

Jessica Lynch
Some of you may have noticed that the incidence In the fighting, and civil strife, in Iraq, of torture, cruel, barbaric, repulsive, has come up more and more often of late. Until just a few short weeks ago, it was not an issue, never mentioned.
Early in the war with Iraq, Jessica Lynch was captured by the Iraqis. We were fearful that she would be killed, or humiliated, or mutilated. She wasn't. She was treated with respect. Some of our enemies placed themselves in jeopardy to protect her. She was rescued, and is safe and sound.
The Last One Standing
Submitted by ms zola on July 18, 2006 - 8:05pm. assassinations | bombings | Iraq | torture | violenceAt the current rate of killing in Iraq, if the Iraqi's keep it up, the Americans will be able to just walk away because there won't be anyone left to defend.
According to the International news agency almost 6,000 Iraqi's were killed in the last two months.
Hundreds of teachers, judges, religious leaders and doctors have been killed. This is somewhat remeniscent of the Red Army's march across China under Mao. It took China years to recover from the loss of her educated class.
American Torture: Racking Up The Points
Submitted by o ceallaigh on May 10, 2006 - 7:21am. Adolph Hitler | AMERICAN HISTORY | Jon Carroll | O Ceallaigh's Observations | shame | tortureLike everything else I do in my life lately, I get to the newspaper a day late. At least. Most of the time it doesn’t matter, except for the sports scores it all seems “been there done that?. But yesterday’s (9 May 2006) column by Jon Carroll of the San Francisco Chronicle got my attention right fast. Think “right? as in “right uppercut?. It’s Carroll’s take on the Moussaoui trial and why we haven’t seen more prosecutions of people allegedly involved in the 9/11 bombings. Because We the People, in excruciating disregard for practically our entire history as a nation up until now, have tortured these "suspects". The article is “must? reading.
We Are Torturing Ourselves
Submitted by Sir Smittius of... on April 16, 2006 - 7:54am. article | Media | movies | opinion | tortureThe word desensitization has been used often to describe the sense of satisfaction we as a society get from increasingly pushing the envelope within our media. We enjoy watching and experiencing entertainment that both shocks and excites us, and the scope of what shocks and excites us has become vastly more disturbing with every passing generation. Recently, within both the realm of film and television, graphic scenes of torture and dismemberment have become very popular, the latest in this need to push the envelope of what we as a viewing public can handle. The timing seems very strange, with the recent very public actions of the US Military, as well as other controversial corporal punishment and arcane torture methods being decried and exposed throughout the world. Yet, shows and movies of this theme are more celebrated than ever. I don’t for one second claim that media such as this should not be made. On the contrary, I am all for gore and blood and guts in movies, and enjoy seeing the creative landscape explored, even if it may be a little unnerving. Putting a stop to media such as this is not the answer, as stifling creativity never is, but perhaps we should examine exactly why we need to push things this far. Have we become so desensitized that simple murder just isn’t scary enough anymore? Is it enough even to be frightened now, or must we also be shocked and psychologically disturbed to actually feel fear from a television show or a horror movie? The prevalence of psychological and physical torture and abuse in our media today would suggest yes.
Is BRAINWASHING Real?
Submitted by realitycheck on March 13, 2006 - 7:26am. area 51 | brainwashing | CIA | cults | Jeffrey K. Hadden | mind control | subliminal messages | tortureIs BRAINWASHING Real?
Is brainwashing just a thing of the past? How was it invented and is it still used today? Have you been a victim of brainwashing? Where and why is it used? Most of all, is it even REAL?
WHAT IS BRAIN WASHING?
Brainwashing/Mind control is the successful control of the thoughts and actions of another without his or her consent. Generally, the term implies that the victim has given up some basic political, social, or religious beliefs and attitudes, and has been made to accept contrasting ideas. 'Brainwashing' is often used loosely to refer to being persuaded by propaganda.
