There seems to be a disturbing trend in Japan these days. I've always known the pressure in Japan to perform was tough, and, oddly enough, suicide isn't as easy to do as it seems, even with the numbers of people who do it.

This story was pretty bad also; I'd assumed most people would know about it already, but since no one else has written about it, I will.

It's about this 13 year old girl in St. Louis committed suicide after being dumped by a 13 year old boy on MySpace after a relatively short online relationship. The thing is, however, it wasn't really a 16 year old boy; it was the parents of another 13 year old girl who used to be best friends with the young girl that killed herself.

I'm dealing with the death of my father. He committed suicide, or tried to, on August 3rd. He shot himself in the mouth, on the front porch of his home, with my mom and my brother in the kitchen. There was an argument....God didn't love him, and he was going to hell. Then all at once it happened. He didn't die right away. I had to take my mother into the emergency room, after being kept at the security desk for 20 minutes, until social services and the doctor, could come down and speak with us about his condition. He blew the right side of his brain to smitherines, lost his right eye, was paralyzed on the left side of his body, and had little brain function. I had to literally keep my mother from climbing on top of his bloody mess of a face, to keep her from kissing him. Mind you, once you decide to let them go on their own, they don't bandage anything, just try to clean them up best they can. He was on life support until the following morning. He was breathing over the ventilator when we took him off. He continued to breath on his own for about 13 hours, and then passed. That was when he succeeded his task.

Are you gone off your head? Suicide cannot make a solution of any problem. Only with the life gone by, the problem shadowwalks with the ghost of yours and it starts haunting and humiliating everyone. Yes, suicide is a deliberate self harm (DSH). You deliberately ruin yourself and keep on ruining others. The problem remains, it dies hard, so to say.

My granddaughter is quite a volunteerer She has tutored kids younger that herself at school; she has made quilts for small children in the women and children’s department of our local mission, and she spent time last summer doing a variety of jobs at a senior citizens center. Today I asked her if she had ever considered volunteering as a counselor on a suicide hotline.

“Never!� was her emphatic reply. When I asked her why not, she said, “I could never live with myself if I ever thought I might have been the one to finally push someone over the line.�

We live in a world where if you're lucky, and you live in a nice country, you can be sure of a full life, but what about when you're so old , or dieseased that it's machines that are keeping you alive?

When does it switch from being a good thing, to a bad thing, when does it become curle to keep people alive, againstt their own wishes perhaps?

Should patients be allowed to decide, and docters perform a lethal injection, rather than overdosing, or more violent methods?

A few weeks ago my friends father committed suicide. He went missing one day and a few weeks later they found him. Beneath his body were the pain pills that allowed him to slip away one last time. I never met this man, he lived very far away and I had only heard of him mentioned a few times.

It came as quite a surprise. Even though, at forty-eight years old, she had forever struggled with mother-daughter issues. Even though her drug involvements led to more, not less, stress. And even though she had been prematurely released from the psychiatric hospital where she had been admitted as a danger to self. Her suicide four years ago came as quite a surprise.

Tough love is a funny thing. "Don't enable, don't enable" goes the mantra. "You'll only prolong the cycle." Tough love certainly stopped the cycle.

I'm pregnant, so I get cravings. Last weekend, it was for a key lime pie. My fabulous husband took my 3 year old to the store with him and brought one back for me. (Isn't he great? Though right now I'm dying for some KFC and he's refusing to go. Sometimes he's great, I guess!)
