Cancer: The Dreaded Diagnosis

There is a certain anatomy to emerging awareness that one has cancer. A frightful experience, only exacerbated by the stress, fear, and anxiety that inevitably accompanies this dreary process.

Once 'signs' develop, many fears are evoked. "What is this?' one may ask. "It's probably nothing serious" one may bargain. All the while, scared to death.

Ultimately one must go to the doctor. It is simply too much to manage without such. Yet, people put this off, and attempt their own newly discovered forms of lifestyle change. All in hopes of making this thing go away.

He Said Having a Crisis is Like Sex

As a practitioner of stress management coaching and consultation, I have stumbled several times upon a curious and frustrating phenomenon. While the action occurs often, rarely does it make its' way onto my desk.

Have you ever known someone who creates crises? Crisis for the sake of having a crisis? I'm sure most of you have. What is that about? Who does this, what drives it, and how can I sustain empathy for the ones perpetrating their histrionics upon an innocent audience?

Stress Management of TERRORISM

There are many ways to gauge the success (or failure) of the war on terrorism. Are there fewer attacks? Are more allies piling into the fray?

DO PEOPLE FEEL SAFER?

Before addressing this question, one must ask 'how are people getting their information about terrorism?' Today, when so much of the news, publications, and other forms of propoganda are geared to influence and spin, it's difficult to collect relevant information. It is out there, and if one chooses to become aware, it will take a commitment of time and energy to become so.
