With an online business, everything you need is available for free. You can use a free website, free autoresponder, and free methods of advertising. If your Internet business if doing poorly and you are not making money online, it is either due to the products that you are offering or your marketing techniques. Your products should be related to the content on your site. If your site is about birds, you will not sell many big screen TV’s. However, you may find great success selling birdseed, birdhouses, bird toys and other bird related items. Make sure that your product offerings are related to your niche.

The other problem might be marketing. Are you getting targeted traffic to your site? My primary marketing method is through the use of articles. I write three articles every day. It involves some work, but I enjoy writing. I like this marketing method because it works. Plus, the articles that I wrote six months ago are still working for me today. It provides a compounding effect. And I can write articles for free! On the other hand, pay-per-click programs can be expensive and only work on the day that they are shown. For that reason, I’ll stick with articles.

If you are setting up your first online business, you should consider using affiliate programs. They provide a number of advantages to help you start making money online. There is no physical product to handle so you don’t need carry a supply of the product you sell. Your cost to carry inventory is zero! And you don’t have the hassles of dealing with the public. The merchant deals with all customer issues such as, inquiries, fulfillment (mailing out product), and refunds.

So, what is an affiliate program? An affiliate program is a method of making money on the Internet. You register as an affiliate with a company (called the merchant) that provides a product for sale. There is usually no charge to register. Your only job is to refer people to the merchant’s website. Each time one of your visitors buys a product from the merchant, you collect a commission. The merchant is responsible for developing the product, negotiating the sale (through their website), handling the payment collection, sending out the product, and taking care of any problems. Your commission can vary according to the merchant and product but generally ranges between 30% and 75% of the sale price. You do not need a merchant account, nor do you need to have any sort of checkout procedure or shopping cart. Your only responsibility is to send people to the merchant’s website, they take care of the rest.

You don’t even need a website to participate, although it is an advantage if you have one. You can refer visitors directly to the merchant’s website through a blog, ads (both free and paid), forums, user groups, and email. You are only limited by your imagination. Do not, however, use spam to generate visitors! That is a sure way to get banned from affiliate participation, and possibly be prosecuted under the law.

One of the most appealing features of an affiliate program is how quickly you can begin to make money. Once you sign up as an affiliate, you can start making money right away! It is one of the easiest, cheapest, and quickest ways to set up an Internet business and start making money online.

Are you using affiliate programs to make money online? If so, is it working for you? Many people start their Internet businesses using affiliate programs but fail to make money. In many cases, they fail to make money because they will jump from one program if they don’t make any sales. If they did some statistical research, they might have a better chance of making money online.

On average, 100 targeted visits to a sales page will result in 1 sale. For this reason, it is important to track the number of visitors that you are sending to a merchant’s sales page. If you are sending 4 people a day, don’t be discouraged if you haven’t made a sale in 3 weeks. At that point, you only sent 84 people to the site. Work harder and make more of an effort to refer more people.

That doesn’t mean if you’ve sent 99 visitors, the next visit has to result in a sale. It is more of a long-term average. I once sent 350 people to an affiliate site and didn’t get 1 sale. Just as I was about to give up on the program, I made 4 sales in 1 week and made very good money. If I eliminated the program after 325 visits, I would have missed the opportunity to make some very good money with that program.

If you’ve sent 400-500 visitors to a site and haven’t generated any sales, it is probably time to choose another affiliate program. At that point, you have to face the fact that your merchant’s site does not convert well. Look for another program and start all over again. If you find a program that converts in excess of 1 percent, stay with it and if you can, add another affiliate program, into your business.

By eliminating losing programs, keeping your money makers, and adding new programs, you can build a very profitable affiliate business. But, you can only do this if you track your results so that you know which programs are the most successful.

Are you making money online? Are you trying to use affiliate programs to do it? I have a number of affiliate programs for my products and the statistics are rather interesting. I’ve found that only about 1 out of 100 affiliates make a significant amount of money. So if you are not making money using affiliate products, you are not in the minority.

But why is that most affiliates don’t make much money? After all, I am selling the exact same product as my affiliates and I make lots of money. I believe the main difference is two fold, traffic and patience.

Most affiliates realize that they have to send traffic to their merchant’s site and begin to do so making an earnest effort. They will continue to send traffic for a week or two. If they don’t see any results right away, they get bored, disappointed, disgusted (you choose the word). At this point they stop working on the program and that is their down fall.

On average, most products will achieve about 1 sale for every 100 visitors that see the sales page. If an affiliate works hard for 2 weeks, he may have sent just 70 people to the merchant’s site. Under those circumstances, I would not expect that he would have made a sale (unless he is lucky).

To achieve success as an affiliate, you have to stick with a program and track your results. It is important to know how many people that you are sending to your merchant. If you send just 50 people there, don’t get disgusted with the product. Work harder and send more people to the site.

So if you have not made money with affiliate products, keep working and send people to the merchant’s site. Use the knowledge that only 1 in 100 people make a purchase to your advantage. Is your Internet business profitable? Many people with online businesses complain that they aren’t making money online, but they continue to do the same things month after month. If you are not making money, maybe you should try using some different techniques.

If you are getting traffic to your site but not making money, your traffic is not targeted. Find out why. Is the content of your site relevant? Are your ads and links placed in prominent areas on your site? Are your ads related to your content? Are you using enough ads? Are your links hidden among a jumble of other stuff? Ask yourself these hard questions and look at your site as an unbiased visitor. Ask some friends to come to your site and give you their honest opinion.

If you are not getting traffic that is a different story. What methods are you using to promote your site? Whatever methods you are using, they are not working. If you are using ads, either your copy is faulty, you are advertising to the wrong audience, or you are not reaching enough people. Take some steps to find which of these problems exist.

If you are using pay-per click, it is almost certainty a problem with your ad copy. Investigate the possibility of using a professional copywriter for an ad or two. If your results improve, you have discovered the problem

Be methodical in looking for improvements to your site. Every improvement that you make to your site, traffic, or sales copy, you will result in more money in your pocket. So if you want to start making money online, or make more money, be critical with your site. Get some outside opinions and make some changes. One of the changes that occur may be your income!

Making money online with affiliate programs actually has very little to do with the affiliate products. After you’ve completed your research to determine which products you want to promote, your involvement with the product ends. From that point on it is all about traffic. To be successful using affiliate products, you need to focus on sending traffic to the merchant’s sale page. Period.

Most affiliate products convert at about 1 percent. That means for every 100 targeted visitors that see the product, only 1 will make a purchase. Many people try to diversify their Internet business by recommending eight or even ten different affiliate products.

Although this may sound like a good business strategy, it can make it very difficult to make money in the beginning, particularly if you only do this part time.

Over the past 7 days, I’ve sent a total of 848 visitors to the affiliate programs that I promote. Out of those 848 visitors, 7 of them made purchases. I’m able to do those kinds of numbers because I do this full time. If you are only working part time, you might only be able to get one tenth as much traffic.

If you are sending a total of 85 visitors a week split among 9 different affiliate programs, it might take you almost three months before you generate your first sale. Most people will give up long before that time and, as a result, they will never make money online.

If you are working this business part time, and you want to make money using affiliate products, use just one or two reasonably priced affiliate products. Focus all of your marketing efforts on these products. Using this strategy, you might expect to make your first sale in two to three weeks. But, in order to do this, you have to market aggressively. You should write articles, post on forums, use some form of outside advertising (even if it is free), and post ads on your site. Of course, this is not a complete list. But the point is, you need to use a variety of strategies to direct traffic to your merchants. By doing this, you can start making money online using affiliate products.

Are you getting traffic to your website? Is that traffic translating into profits? Frequently, people will seek out any type of traffic thinking that any traffic is good traffic. Unfortunately, that is not the case. An associate recently had 4200 visitors in one day and made just $1.76. That represents about 4 one hundreds of a cent per visitor. It is obvious that the traffic she attracted had absolutely no interest in anything she offered.

If you are serious about wanting to start making money online, you need targeted traffic coming to your site. The kind that comes to your website because they are interested in the type of content that you specialize in. The kind that will click on your links and buy your products. That is the kind of traffic you want.

On average, I would estimate that for every article that you write, you will generate about 10 page views per month. That may not seem like a lot. But if you write one article every day, you would have about 3600 visitors per month at the end of the year. If you write 2 articles per day, you would get about 7000 visitors per month.

The advantage to this method is that it doesn’t stop. If you go away for a 4-week vacation, your visitors would continue to come to your site every day. In fact, I have had some of my best months when I’ve been away.

With almost any other marketing technique, when you are away, you do little or no business. That is the big benefit of writing articles. If I have to go out of town for a day or two, my business continues as thought I’m in the office working hard.

So, if you want to start making money with targeted traffic, consider writing articles. It will pay you big dividends even when you are NOT on vacation.

Are you making money with your online business? Would you like to? There are thousands of ways that you can make money on the Internet. For most people, it is just a matter of knowing how. Given the right tools, anyone can start making money online.

I prefer the traditional money making methods. I’m not smart enough to invent a new money making technique. When I started my Internet business, I copied the procedures of those who were already successful. I figured that if it worked for them it would work for me. And sure enough, using those same techniques I started making money online. In my very first month, I made $20. It was hardly a livable wage, but I was excited about it just the same.

There is one bit of bad news regarding this technique; unfortunately, it requires you to do some work. No successful entrepreneur that I know got there without working.
