Midwest | snow
I live in the Midwest. Whenever the weather forcasters call for snow or ice, people where I live lose their minds.
It's like they suddenly think "Oh my gosh! Something is going to happen and I'm not prepared!" The grocery stores fill up and people start grabbing food from the shelves, the gas station pumps line up, and people generally freak out.

hottest | snow | storms | weather
Last night I took the trash out to the curb. It was overcast, had stopped raining, and I wondered what all this fuss was about this supposed winter storm that we were supposed to be having.
I wake up this morning, walk into the living room, and my wife says "it's ugly out there, and it's your fault." Of course I have to go look out the window, and suddenly it's winter wonderland again. I mean, there's at least 5 or 6 inches out there now, and it's still coming down hard. The predictions are for upwards of a foot of snow from this storm; all we needed was 7 inches to surpass the highest April snowfall totals in history around here, so I guess that's a given at this point.

international greetings | snow | spring | weather
All right, already! We are having yet another day of ice and snow. It is April 11, when are we going to begin to have warmer weather? Everyone is still donning their winter coats, and my kids are looking longingly at their shorts and t-shirts wondering if they will ever get to wear them. Two of my daughters have been rollerblading inside the house. They have yet to have a day nice enough to go out to skate.

I don't know about you but I am getting tired of the wish washiness of th weather in Oklahoma. I guess that you could say that we really could use the rain but on the down side of things, this weather that we are having in Oklahom is making everyone sick.
I can see that it is happening in a lot of States this year but when you have lived in Oklahoma for as long as I have then you think that you would be use to it by now.

It doesn’t snow as much in Michigan as everyone thinks. Yes we get a ton of lake effect snow however it is limited to about 20 miles inland along lake Michigan and lake Superior. The rest of the state which includes the big auto industry cities of Flint, Lansing and Detroit do not receive lake effect snow.
I attended college at Farris State University which is in the snow belt along lake Michigan and it would snow literally every day. I mean feet of snow some days. However when I drove home over the holidays which was 2 hours away north of Flint their often wouldn’t be less then an inch of snow on the ground.

There is a serious situation potentially developing in Peoria, IL right now, and possibly in other Midwestern communities as well. Last night's storm, a toxic and heavy mixture of rain, freezing rain, snow, and rain mixed with snow and who knows what else...devastated the Midwestern U.S. Among the cities hardest hit was Peoria, IL, which got at least 10 inches of snow in a very short time span. Apparently a lot of people were unable to keep up with the snow (in terms of shoveling) and are now trapped in their homes.

Granted it is not sticking...yet. But this morning has brought us the season's first snow. It has been a light shower of tiny flakes all morning and so pretty to look at. this is the one thing I love about living in the Northwest....teh four seasons. growing up in LA I only had summer year round, which is great in its own right, but far from festive.
I can't wait for it to start sticking (if it decides to) so that I can take my son out to the backyard and take some pics.

snow | spring
Well, today is the first day of spring. Usually when people think of the first day of spring, they think of the grass getting greener, and other such 'lively' occurances.
Well, that isn't the case here in good ol' Missouri. In the lovely state of 'ever changing weather' we are getting... SNOW! YES, SNOW, on the first day of spring. Now, a snow storm in spring is NOT a rarity here, but with the mild winter we had, it's odd to see the stuff falling. Well its more like blowing and whipping everywhere then falling. Besides the snow, we also have some nice wind going on today.

school | snow | weather
There is only a faint dusting of snow here, but not too far away, they are calling for over a foot of snow. Because of this, they cancelled school today, and they NEVER cancel school here. I am kind of happy, but also kind of disgusted.
With two kids that don't play too well with each other, snow days are awful. There is endless fighting, bickering, and manipulating. It is made even worse by the fact that there isn't even enough snow to consider sending them outside. If I told them to throw snowballs at each other, the snowballs would be 97% mud (which might be good for a laugh later if they don't settle down!).

Big Island | Hawaii | Maui | Mauna Kea | Mauna Loa | Mountains | snow
Not everyone knows that it snows in Hawaii...
Here's proof. This shot was taken by Mom back home in Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii. The mountain is Mauna Kea. It also snows on Mauna Loa on the Big Island and I've heard (although never saw) that Haleakala on the island of Maui gets snow as well. Enjoy. Aloha
