Dexter - A Review

Last weekend, the Showtime family of channels presented a free preview to promote their new dramatic series, Dexter, about a serial killer working as a blood spatter specialist in Miami. I caught it the night it premiered and really wanted to like it...

That's my whole thing with Showtime, period: no matter what they do, I want to like it (for reasons still not completely clear to me), but rarely do. Showtime is the network on which SG-1 originally appeared, and I did not care for it. Showtime also did the new Outer Limits and the Poltergeist series, the latter of which was the best of them all (also the shortest-lived), and neither fared very well. The best thing Showtime has ever done -- one of the better things on TV in the last several years, period -- was the phenomenal Dead Like Me, which ended after only two seasons and is now showing Tuesdays on the Sci-Fi Channel. Put another way, Showtime does not have a good track record when it comes to original series, and Dexter is not going to change that for them.

The L Word Stands for...

Today I happened to be watching Showtime and left it on and this show came on, The L Word. I thought they meant Love at first and it actually was sort of interesting. Following the lives of different people.

It started out with this girl and her boyfriend and they're going to meet someone or so. Anyway, I'm not paying full attention and when I look back at it it turns out her "boyfriend" is a woman getting a sex change.
