So I left off my last post with the fact that I’d received the e-mail from my sister-in-law’s mom (Ninny - not her real name) about her sharing a secret she didn’t want my brother and sister-in-law to know about.

Secrets – Part 1
I was watching Legally Blond last night. I realize this is a pretty silly movie, but if you look deeper than the fluff, there are many great life and relationship lessons in this movie. One of my favorites is Elle’s integrity when asked to keep a secret.

Owners of Data

Honesty in what should have been revealed, however, takes qualification. If what should be revealed solves something, gives added benefit to most, then by all means reveal it and be relieved from keeping it.
Personal secrets do not need to be revealed if it does not help, however. They may be mistakes that are part of growing up. One writer wrote of being relieved after telling her secrets, which she said, made her a prison all her life. This included revealing her mother’s being an alcoholic and not knowing who her father was. Certainly, one must be selective in choosing whom to reveal secrets.

But for some reason I am feeling inspired to sit down tonight and become something of an open book. So here goes nothing...
Who is ModelMom? Well, I'm a Cuban-Hungarian mutt, born in Los Angeles but raised very non-LA. My childhood was typically dysfunctional although I came out of it with high morals and a pretty good value system. I went to college, graduated with a BA in English Lit with minors in Spanish and German. I got married, got divorced, started modeling, traveled the world. I lived in Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, Korea, Italy, Austria, with stops in many other places in between, then off to Miami, Los Angeles and Portland. Got into a bizarre courtship with a photographer, broke up, traveled some more, met my husband, got married again , had a baby boy, and started blogging.

“Still no word yet? Mystra asks Buddy. There are tears streaming down his face. “Oh, Buddy, Buddy, I am so sorry for you, you are really taking this very hard, aren’t you. Mystra says as she cradles him in her arms to console him. Buddy’s lover of only six weeks, Larry, went to Louisiana for his mother’s funeral the Friday before Katrina and was due to return the Monday after, six months later he still has not heard from Larry. Buddy has been coming to work everyday since then with a very heavy heart. With his patrons, he is cheery and always smiling, and quite attentive to their every wish. But on his breaks he is a total mess.

The deeper meanings in life are available to those with enough wherewithal to step outside dogma to look independently. This search should be encouraged, yet it should never be taught in an authoritarian manner. The search is of paramount importance, the opinions of others should be learned, yet these opinions should only be looked at as opinions for it is not the opinions that are dangerous it is when an authoritarian tells people that they are fools to look elsewhere that discouragement may set in.
