So far the only one I have found that they don't offer is Southern Living. All subscriptions that I have read are for a year, which at that price it's a killing. In 1997, a study of 5,402 home schooled students from 1,657 families was released. It was entitled, "Strengths of Their Own: Home Schoolers Across America." The study demonstrated that homeschoolers, on the average, out-performed their counterparts in the public schools by 30 to 37 percentile points in all subjects.

Another important finding of Strengths of Their Own was that the race of the student does not make any difference. There was no significant difference between minority and white homeschooled students. For example, in grades K-12, both white and minority students scored, on the average, in the 87th percentile. In math, whites scored in the 82nd percentile while minorities scored in the 77th percentile.

Does anyone remember the Christmas Club?

As a little girl, I can remember my grandmother going to the bank once a week with several booklets. They would stamp each booklet and tear a sheet out. It was the Christmas Club.

She would use that money at the end of the year to buy Christmas gifts, which in her case was an envelope with money. She even had me to do a Christmas Club one time, which I think was $5.00 a week.

A friend and I were talking about his addiction to tobacco. I asked him how much he spent a day on smokes. "About $5.00" he said. It seemed a little low to me but I started figuring out the cost for his habit.

$5.00 x 30 days average a month = $150.00

$150.00 x 12 = $1800.00 per year.

In ten years he will have spent $18,000.00

In 20 years it will have cost him $36,000.00

What could you do with an extra $36,000.00? What if he saved that money and put it at simple interest over twenty years? That's about $2600.00 if you figure it on 4%. That's $38,600.00

Many of us do not give proper importance to saving. They think that it is wastage of money and time to save money. They want to enjoy life today. I also have the same view till I read an article which was telling how to become a millionaire by saving small amount of money. According to this article if a person saves Rupees 1000/month for 25 years and if, he was available to get the return of 11% then he will be having more then Rupees 10000000. If the person saves Rupees 2000 then he can save up to rupees 26000000. Which is a very big amount in India and a person can live happy life with it.
