ESPN has hired many film makers to film documentaries to cover sports of thirty years on various topics. As many as 30 directors, which include Davis Guggenheim, Linklater and Spike Lee will show their talent in making films and would make a one hour documentry covering sports topics.

The leading satellite television provider DirecTV has renewed the carriage rights of Crown Media Holdings Hallmark Movie Channel and Hallmark Channel for multi-year term. The terms of the deal was not disclosed. This carriage agreement will allow DirecTV to carry standard and high-definition versions of Hallmark Movie Channel DirecTV on its press release stated that the sat caster won't carry The Hallmark Movie Channel's high-definition version during its launch on April 2.

Atlanta based Gospel Music Channel (GMC) will be available for DirecTV customers from March 19 on channel 339. GMC has reached carriage deal with DirecTV and also with Time Warner Cable, Cox and Comcast and the 24-hour Christian Music television network will reach about 40 million households in United States. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

According to Sanford C. Bernstein analyst Craig Moffett Dish Network has underperformed in the fourth quarter of 2007. The analyst predicted to add about 148,000 subscribers in this quarter but Dish Network was able to add only about 85,000 subscribers, which is far less compared to fourth quarter of 2006, the Dish Network added about 350,000 subscribers in fourth quarter of 2006. The Analyst described this as problem because of housing, lower churn for the whole industry, these factors lead to little addition to new subscribers to Dish Network.

DIRECTV started its high-definition expansion last year and has delivered almost 90 HD channels and now adding local HD channels in many Market area. The satcaster is about to launch a new satellite next month and the next phase of HD expansion will start and expected to deliver 150 national and 1500 local HD channels. Other providers and Cable Companies have no option to compete are just delivering one or two HD channels depending upon their Bandwidth faciity available and also trying ways and means to stay in the competition.

National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) insists DIRECTV to deliver local TV service in all the 210 markets by end of 2008. NAB sent a letter to Federal Communications Commission (FCC) expressing their concern about the delivery of local channels in all the markets. DIRECTV already delivers local TV programs in 144 markets. NAB took this issue when FCC is getting ready to vote on DirecTV-Liberty Media merger. The meeting was scheduled on Feb 25 has been postponed to the next day and it’s unclear if FCC will take up the issue.
