How to Soothe Colicky Babies

baby | blood | Colic | colicky | CRY | crying | how | Infant | newborn | Pregnant | safety | soothe | warm | womb

Colic is a condition that causes unexplained and prolonged crying in infants. If a baby is colicky, it is a good idea to swaddle a baby tightly to make it feel like it is back in the comfort and safety of the womb. Using things like a hair dryer or a fan can imitate the loud sound of blood flowing through a pregnant woman’s arteries. It is a good idea to keep the baby in movement, such as rocking or riding in a car, that reminds them of the womb. The baby can feel soothed with warm baths and warm wash cloths placed on their stomachs. By the time a baby is 3 or 4months old, colic symptoms usually go away and don’t return.

How to Identify Static Sparks for Your Safety

comfort | safety | sparks | static

One of the greatest mild discomforts that millions of people go through unknowingly is static sparks. Static sparks or static electricity is the one you generate when you rub plastic pen against your hair and then you bring the pen closer to pieces of paper - the pieces of paper are attracted to the pen. Static electricity can sometimes build to very high voltages in our bodies causing great damage including death. A case in point is in a field in central Africa where eleven players of soccer team perished leaving intact the eleven players of the opposing team. Each one of us has a certain amount of static electricity but in mild amounts and the discomfort is equally mild. Since we are not aware of it or we do not know what the discomfort is, it does not matter. But it should matter. To the few people who are aware of static electricity in their bodies, the biggest complaints they have is that static electricity causes sparks or gives them mild shocks when they touch things or even other people. Most people experience this problem in the dry weather.

There is a lot of media attention recently regading the 20 month old boy in the U.S. who ate some of the Aqua Dots craft/toy and was apparently made sick by a chemical breaking down into something like GHB, the date rape drug. Certainly this is a terrible thing and everyone is glad that the little boy is fine now.

Prison guards....... How good of a job are they doing?

criminals | life | living | real life | safety

Yesterday morning, a prison guard was arrested at the Kentucky State Penitentiary. He was seen passing illegal drugs to an inmate. Why on earth would he do that?

Although I have never been in a prison, I have heard the horror stories. There is no way that I would ever be cut out to even be a prison guard. I imagine it's a very, very difficult job. But why would a person that's chosen to work as one do something illegal?

Clipping birdie's wings

I've been wondering for bird lovers, and owners, would you clip your own bird's wings?

The advantages of clipping a bird's wings is that generally they won't be able to fly far, and their flight is normally downhill. YOu won't have to worry about them flying out windows or getting into trouble. It's almost an ideal grooming practice for those who do not have a lot of time with their birds.
