Our military is dwindling because no one wants to go to Iraq or Afghanistan. The soldiers we have been able to hold on to don't want to re-enlist because they have served multiple tours in both countries and not only are their families falling apart, but so is the American economy.

If I travel do Russia, is it better to stay in a hotel or rent an apartment?
Submitted by Roulette on February 18, 2008 - 11:47pm. apartment rent | hotels | Russia | travelThere are advantages and disadvantages to both. Hotels can be expensive; apartments are (usually) cheaper. Apartments have kitchens, so if you are going to cook you can save on food as well. However, one can feel rather lost and isolated in an apartment, especially if they need help and they don’t speak any Russian. Hotels, on the other hand, usually have some English-speaking personnel.

Two Russias: Moscow and Everything Else
Submitted by Roulette on February 10, 2008 - 12:06am. Moscow | Muskovites | Russia | russian women | travel | travel to MoscowThere are two different Russias, I heard people say, one is Moscow (and maybe also St.-Petersburg), and the other is the rest of the country. I find this to be true. These two Russias are indeed vastly different, so if you ever come to visit Moscow you should by no means assume that you have seen the “Russian life.” You haven’t. You have only seen Moscow life, and very likely a very small part of it.
Do They Celebrate Valentine’s Day in Russia?
Submitted by Roulette on February 7, 2008 - 3:24pm. Russia | russian women | Valentine’s | Valentine’s Day | Valentine’s Day in RussiaI am often asked whether people celebrate Valentine’s Day in Russia. Nowadays, they do. Fifteen or twenty years ago nobody did. Some people heard of this “Western” holiday and knew that it was the “day for people in love,” but Russians did not celebrate it. Women would receive signs of love and appreciation on the 8th of March, known as the International Women’s Day. On that day, flowers, chocolate, cake, or at least a card or a phone call were in order for every woman in the man’s life: wife, girlfriend, sister, mother, grandmother, daughter, co-worker. The closer the relationship, the more attention had to be shown.

The Mil Mi-24 (NATO reporting name 'Hind') is a versatile, multirole helicopter which acts as both a gunship and a troop transport. It is operated from 1976 by the Soviet Air Force, its successors, and over thirty other nations. Russian pilots nicknamed the aircraft letayushiy tank or 'flying tank' most probably due to its large size and heavy firepower. Another common nickname is Krokodil ('Crocodile'), a name which derived from the helicopter's camouflage and hull shape.
RUSSIAN WWII BODY ARMOR - A FASCINATING FIND
Submitted by Hangmen13 on May 31, 2006 - 9:14am. body armor | Russia | SN-42 | World War IIRUSSIAN WWII BODY ARMOR - A FASCINATING FIND
Body armors have been in production and use since the early 20th century. The period during the early 20th century saw an upsurge of body armor innovations and usage with both civillians and the military. Silk were used to weave early ballistic vests, costing a present day equivalent of U$D15,000 each which would stop low velocity rounds fired from black powder handguns. Not only does the vest protection is limited and the production cost expensive, it ironically wasn't able to save the life of one of its most famous wearer, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria when he was assassinated on June 28, 1914. He was shot in the neck with a .32 ACP calibre FN Model 1910, leaving the vest unscathed.
