My diamond engagement ring came to me as just a diamond. Passed down from my now-husband's grandmother, the diamond was wrapped in paper, waiting for me to find a setting to put it in. Probably unfortunately, I fell in love with a somewhat-expensive setting, which partially negated the savings my husband would have had from getting the diamond for free. But it wasn't about saving money and 12 years later I love that ring. I expect that I'll continue to love it, which may make handing it down to my own son for his future wife much harder (but he's only three, so I don't have to worry about that for a while).

Jewellery - especially body jewellery - can be overwhelmingly expensive. I often look through racks thinking "well I like all of them...". I've also found that my upper ear piercing has always been an expensive little devil. $40-$50 for an earring???

Little did I know I was naive. Just because all of the shops sell them for that much doesn't mean that they cost anything over like 25 cents to make. Yep. Websites abound that will sell them now for a dollar or two, because when they buy them wholesale, they pay so little.

Check out Danforth Diamonds if you are looking for a nice diamond engagement ring. They have some very nice antique style rings that are a great price. This site offers some nice selections. The way the stone is set, it looks like a massive Paris Hilton type setting, without costing as much as one. I especially like this one because it has a funky, unique flair. I can really see myself wearing it.
