How infertility can strike you:

drink | french | important | pollution | roomba | smoke | time | wedding

You have waited too long:This is the most important reason why several couples,especially women, are facing infertility problems.These days,couples are postponing their conception,says some medical experts.By the time a woman turns 40,the pool reserve of her eggs gets depleted.So the biological clock for producing children practically stops,observes some medical experts.Unlike man,who can produce sperms till he dies,a woman is born with half a million eggs that deplete as she ages.Till about the age of 35,a woman's chances of conception are very high (about 55 per cent).The 36-40 age-group is the grey zone, where the chances of conception drop to about 20-25 per cent.As a woman ages the success rate of assisted reproduction technologies precedure also drops proportionately.

Reduce, Reuse or Recycle?

environment | Fusarium keratitis | pollution

I have been thinking a lot about improving the planet and the campaign that has been going on to make people more aware of preserving the environment. The slogan 'Reduce, Reuse and Recycle' has been often use to encourage people to save the environment. I think of the three the most important is REDUCE. There is limit to the amount one can recycle or reuse stuff. Reducing comsupmtion of energy, fuel, food etc even by 10% can have a very significant effect on the environment. Furthermore the less we use, the less there will be to reuse or recycle. So lets all start reducing everything. We don't need to have 200 pairs of shoes or 4 TV sets in the same household.

A Likely Alliance: Yahoo advertising IE7 by Microsoft on it's Search Results Page

The media alliances are growing, and in my opinion, proving more predictable than ever. While there is no question that Google pushes it's ever expanding and extremeley vast user base to use Firefox by including it in Google bundles, offering it's services through firefox toolbars, advertising Mozilla firefox through it's search results, etc. Yahoo seems to have found a nice, comfortable little buddy in Internet Explorer, developed by Microsoft.

Yesterday (28 August 2006), while the gang over at Doug’s place were riffing on the theme of how denial is not a river in Egypt, somehow the topic of the Danube River came up. Something about how the view of de Nile would give you de blues. Like the Blue Danube, Herr Strauss. Except – the Danube is not blue.

The City of Lights & Litter

People think it’s so glamorous to live in Paris, and they are usually a bit surprised to find out how much I dislike it, unless they’ve actually lived here.

I suppose if I was here on vacation seeing Notre Dame and the Eifel Tower for the first time that there would definitely be some charm. However, I’m not on vacation.

I’ve never been somewhere quite this filthy, and I’ve been to some dirty places.

Paris is Burning!

Cancer | cigarettes | europe | non | pollution | quit smoking | quitting smoking | second hand smoke | smoke

Paris is burning, and no, I don’t mean cars getting torched in the Parisian suburbs.

My first time in Europe was about two years ago. I landed in the Copenhagen airport in Denmark, stepped off the plane, and got a nice big cancer-causing whiff of cigarette smoke.

The last few years living in Europe has consisted of an onslaught of second hand smoke attacks. You can’t walk down the street in Paris for more than a block without choking on someone’s cigarette smoke, unless it’s 7am on a Sunday.

Ithilien, Maine

The mills are quiet,
rain-washed monuments;
the river flows clean over the falls,
flowers conquer its banks;
young girls squeal in the foaming pools.

But there are orcish scrawls on the rocks,
and shopping carts rusting in the stream;
on the shore a tree stands dead,
stripped of its bark for nothing.

The men of the land
have not forgotten the blackened hand;

Are we getting trapped in a cauldron…?

environment | pollution

The latest reports that are coming in suggest that sea ice in Artic Ocean did not grow at its normal rate. If the spring this year is not unusually cold, the sea ice loss will be one of the biggest ever recorded. The ice retreat that was measured in September 2005 is said to be the biggest ever recorded. But already scientists fear that this year will over take it. By the third week of March, Artic begins its six months of daylight. During this time, ice melts into water at a great pace.
