When you live near a river, rats can be an issue. I can hear them upstairs in the unfinished attic area of my apartment, rats knawing and sqeaking. There's even an occasional rodent turf war, from the sound of things. I want them gone, and now!

I hate bugs. I really truly hate bugs of all kinds with the exception of lady bugs and butterflies. Really. So the fact that I have such a great aversion to insects makes the following incident all the more painful & nasty...

This morning at 5 am I was sound asleep and suddenly felt a pretty strong tickle on my upper arm. I ignored it until I felt the tickle again and then I looked down with bleary eyes and made out a long dark shape....that was moving. I screamed, making my husband leap three feet off of the bed, and shook my arm off as the alien creature that was on it fell to the floor. It was a picher bug. A long, ugly, brown, slimy looking pincher bug. On my arm. In my bed. Bastard!
