As a society we consume more candy and sugar on Easter than all other holidays, except Halloween. Something about the fasting and abstinence during the weeks leading up to Easter makes us more open to the practice of downing as many sugar-coated marshmallows and crème eggs as our insulin levels can stand, and usually guilt free. Of course, there are many people who can’t partake of the annual sugar infused ritual of tearing into a basket of goodies, and Easter should be no less enjoyable for them. What is the Reason that People Overeat?

Some people are overweight because of circumstances beyond their control. They may have medical conditions or take medications that cause them to gain weight. But the biggest majority of overweight people (more than 95%) gain that weigh because of what they put in their mouth.

Because of the enormity of this problem, in today’s society, there are many weight loss organizations that can help you manage your weight. I feel one of the biggest parts of learning to manage your weight is figuring out why you overate in the first place. If you don’t figure out how you got where you are it will be hard not to end up there again.

Not Giving Up

Often when people decide to get healthy and lose weight things go well for a few days, maybe a week or so, and then something happens which sends the individual back into his or her unhealthy eating patterns.

There are many possible factors in this equation, but what it seems to often boil down to is deprivation.

If you tell yourself that you will not eat one single morsel of anything remotely fattening or unhealthy, there comes a point of temptation when it becomes difficult to stick to your resolve. Often it’s nearly impossible because you have set unrealistic expectations for yourself.
