Recidivism: Going Back to Prison

Recidivism means going back to jail. Every time an offender who has served time is released, the prospects of him/her returning to prison is statistically favorable.

There are several reasons people who get in trouble stay in trouble. According to the Bureau of Justice the offenders who are MORE likely to repeat a crime are as follows:

Of the 272,111 persons released from prisons in 15 States in 1994, an estimated 67.5% were rearrested for a felony or serious misdemeanor within 3 years, 46.9% were reconvicted, and 25.4% resentenced to prison for a new crime.

Sex Offenders in Your Neighborhood! PLEASE READ!

I work at a nightclub on Thursday nights. This past Thursday night, a waitress and I were discussing how many absolutely disgusting things customers say to us involving a sexual nature. Somehow we ended up on the topic of “SEX CRIMES". My co-worker, Kim, mentioned that when she first moved to Michigan she did a “Sexual Offender Search" to find local criminals in her area. To her surprise there was over 105 in her city alone, one of which was her next-door neighbor. Kim is a single mother of two girls, ages 5 and 12. The neighbor in question had been charged with sexual assault towards minors (two counts). Outraged, Kim began tying to discover ways to protect her children.
