Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is one of the leading causes of death for children under the age of one. British researchers have found that bacteria may play a big part in SIDS. They found possibly dangerous bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and E. coli, in almost half of all babies who died of SIDS.

Bacteria Linked to Infant Deaths

But because my life is crazy (and not the rockstar fun crazy that it used to be) and I really have no time or money for therapy, I have decided to tamper with the title of my blog and turn it into "Confessions of a Model Mom" and use this space as therapy....writing down the madness that swirls around in my gob always has seemed to help.....at least it's kept me from turning into a complete and blithering idiot or padded cell tenant.

Stupid Parents Award #3- Unbuckled
Submitted by allie on April 16, 2007 - 1:24pm. air charter | medical insurance | newborns | StupidityA few years ago, I babysat a baby boy while his parents worked. On more than one occasion, I picked him up at his house and took his mother to work, in return for a little extra cash to cover the gas money.
Two different days, his mother seemed to have needed Stupid Parent Awards. On those days, she came out to my car and buckled her baby’s car seat into my car. She got into the front seat, next to me, and we rode to her work. The first time, Monster Man (who was riding in the backseat next to the baby) told me “the baby isn’t buckled”. The baby’s infant carrier had two buckles that met into a center latch at the crotch, and then a connector at the chest where you slide the seatbelt into the latch at armpit level. She had fastened the latch at the chest, but had not actually buckled him at the crotch!
Stupid Parents Award #1- No Car Seat
Submitted by allie on April 16, 2007 - 7:59am. crow | newborns | Phd | StupidityA couple of years ago, I was pulling out of a gas station just as a car came pulling into the lot. Barely missing our car as it turned in, I was given a full view of the vehicle and could really assess the situation.
The other car’s windows were rolled down. A man was riding in the passenger seat, a woman was driving. In this lady’s arms was a very new baby, no more than a month old.
Baby Product Review: The Angel Care Monitor
Submitted by ModelMom on April 1, 2006 - 10:00am. baby monitors | baby products | infants | motion sensors | newborns | parenting | sleep deprivationI am going to start incorporating reviews of baby products that I have used and loved into my blog postings once a week. Since I am a first time mom with a 19 month old toddler, I remember not knowing what the heck to register for before he was born and what we would need versus what seemed cool, etc. Hopefully my reviews will help any parents or parents-to-be out of this very same quandry!
The first product I want to review is the Angel Care Monitor by Bebe Sounds. This is by far the BEST baby monitor on the market. I wish I had known about this monitor before my son was born because it would have saved me a lot of sleep deprived nights when he was a newborn! What you don't realize before you have a baby of your own is that you will spontaneously wake up out of a deep sleep every 20 minutes just to check and see if your baby is still breathing. My son was a great sleeper from day one. He would only wake up once for a feeding at night so had we owned the Angel Care monitor in the beginning I could have really raked in some slumber and some sanity!
Formula Feeding Is Not A Sin.
Submitted by ModelMom on February 28, 2006 - 9:20am. bottlefeeding | breastfeeding | infant formula | infant health | infants | newborns | nutrition | parentingI met another mom yesterday, a new mom with a 2 month old little girl. We were at the park and being the only two moms there we struck up a conversation. In that all too familiar way new moms can become an open book when they get to finally be around another adult, she let me know how upset and depressed she was because she has not been able to exclusively breastfeed, has been supplementing with formula, and is trying to decide if she should just feed her baby formula. This impromptu meeting inspired me to write this blog in defense of formula feeders, and to banish some of the fear and guilt being fed to them.
