Fairies: a Look at these Fantasy Folk

fairy | Fantasy | Myth | pay to blog

Fairy's Story
Fairies are found in many legends, tales, backyards and homes throughout the world. The classic image of a fairy is a beautiful little woman with butterfly-like wings. This image is easily seen in Disney's Tinkerbell, Barbie's new Fairytopia, and historically, the famous Cottingly fairies. You also might think of the Fairy Godmother types of modern legend. This includes the tooth fairy. However, in the fantasy realm, there are many beings that are lumped together with fairies (also spelled faeries or called fae folk from Old French - after the latin "fatum" meaning fate. Other types include: gnomes, elves, pixies, sylphs, nature spirits, and mermaids. Mermaids of course, are only found living in the waters of oceans, lakes, and rivers.

Just a Shadow?

alien | death | GHOST | Imagination | mystery | Myth | people | shadow | Truth | vision

"What was that?" You were sitting comfortably on your sofa reading the latest issue of Fortean Times in the dim light when movement across the room caught your attention. It seemed dark and shadowy, but there was nothing there. You returned to your reading - and a moment later there it was again. You looked up quickly this time and saw the fleeting but distinctly human shape of the shadow pass quickly over the far wall... and disappear."

Not God’s Only Begotten Son

DAUGHTER | demigod | God | GODS | Jesus | legend | Myth | son

We’ve heard it all our lives. Jesus is the one and only son of God. Wrong! I’d like you to review the first few verses of Genesis chapter 6 in the King James version. It clearly states the sons of God, plural, took human wives. God states Himself that he had many children and that they mated with humans to create super beings whose actions were the basis for the myths we all studied in school.

The Legends of Old

demigods | GODS | Greek | legend | Myth | Roman

We have all enjoyed the ancient Greek and Roman myths, or at least endured them during English class. I for one remain fascinated by Greek mythology to this day. But a Bible passage I came across recently suggests that there was more than a little truth to those myths.
In Genesis chapter 6 we find that the sons of God chose human wives and thus the stories of epic heroes were born. Imagine living in a time when Hercules roamed the land, saving the weak humans from their own follies and the whims of the gods. Imagine seeing firsthand Zeus’s lightning bolts or feeling Cupid’s arrow strike your heart. After all, if these demigods were real, then gods or angels or whatever you want to call these divine beings must have been roaming the earth right alongside them.

The Great Flood

fables | Myth | Religion | Social anthropology | the great flood

The tale of the great flood verifying Noah and the ark is supposedly a universal truth.

The best illustration of what happened is the great tsunami of 2004 after the Indian Ocean earthquake.

Tsunami’s like earthquakes caused by plate tectonics is not something new; it has happened all over the world through human history and the tale of Noah is no more exclusive than the tale of the 2004 tsunami.
