Republicans Vote Against Mothers.

democrats | Mother's Day | Republicans | vote

Proving once again that they have no soul, Republicans have voted against mothers. Or, more specifically, against Mother's Day.

On Thursday, there was a vote to recognize and honor mothers. They originally voted 412-0 in favor of House Resolution 1113. But then, Rep. Todd Tiahrt asked for them to "reconsider" the vote. Rep. Kathy Castor moved to table the request. This led to a revote, at which time, 178 Republicans voted "nay".

Mystery Fleas for Mother's Day....

fleas | Mother's Day | pest control | pets

It's a beautiful warm & sunny Mother's Day here in Portland. My husband had to work this afternoon but this morning he made us a pancake breakfast and gave me a beautiful gift. So things started off really well.....

....until we started noticing that somehow a family of fleas has decided to make themselves at home in our house. The strange thing is that we have 2 outdoor cats who never come inside, they are treated with Advantage flea killer and upon a good looking over they don't seem to have any of the bloodsucking parasites on them.....so where are these little nasties coming from?

A last minute Mother's Day idea for you

cooking | flowers | Mother's Day

Hello again. I am blogging to share a quick idea for Mother's Day that might save your butt if you're still trying to figure out what to do this Sunday. Yeah, I said THIS SUNDAY!

If you want to beat the crowds and not bother with the madness of going out to brunch on Mother's Day, I have a great idea to share with you. Why not mix two of your mom's favorite things and give her a Mother's Day to remember? Instead of going out, make her a nice Mother's Day meal using flowers as ingredients? Not only will she love the fact that you cooked for her, she'll also love the exotic appeal and beauty of flowers in whatever dishes you make.

It’s not too late to do something really special for Mother’s day, even if your budget is extremely limited. Most of us, (Mothers), like simple, basic, inexpensive gifts. Things that show you gave some thought before you bought. Here are a few things from my own "wish" list. Maybe they will give you a clue as to the type of thing your mother might appreciate on her "special day."

1. A dark purple lilac bush to replace the one that disappeared when they poured the concrete for our new driveway.

DON'T PROCRASTINATE!

flowers | gifts | mom | Mother's Day

Mother's Day is around the corner. Don't procrastinate when it comes to sending flowers! Let me tell you what happened to me last year. The Friday before Mother's Day I attempted to send my mom flowers. I was unsuccessful. Not only were the prices unbelievable, but all the floral arrangements that she would have liked were sold out!

My mom did a lot for my sisters and me. My Dad worked many hours to pay for Catholic school tuition for the three of us. Because of this, my mom was alone most of the time, caring for us. She took us everywhere and that's probably why I did and do the same with my kids! When the alleged Prince Charming made his exit, my mother came to watch my children so that I could work and pay off all the debt HE left me with. I would drive back to the city on the weekends so that we could attend church and prepare everything for my Dad's work week. That's sacrifice! That's why I love my parents so much. I can only hope my kids appreciate me as much as I appreciate my parents.

Mother's Day Should Taste Good!!

gift baskets | gifts | Mother's Day | motherhood | parenting

Mother's Day is around the corner and it still trips me out that now I get to celebrate it for myself...or rather, my husband gets to buy me something cute and tell me that our son picked it out. And, this being my second official Mother's Day, I can't wait to see what the boys cook up for me. Last year it was a 6 hour spa retreat with a chocolate theme....and believe me, I enjoyed and deserved every last minute of it!

Who Invented Mother's Day?

Mother's Day Is May 14!

Most of us have a treasury of nice memories of our mothers. Even those of us who do not usually had some type mother figure in our lives who provided us with a safe haven, a comforting shoulder to cry on, and good advice when we needed to make a difficult decision. Perhaps a sister, aunt, grandmother, neighbor, or even a close friend.

It may surprise you to know that the woman who is responsible for Mother’s Day was never a mother, herself, but she was a daughter who loved her own mother dearly.

Spring Break....

Easter | flowers | Gardening | Mother's Day | Plants | spring

Seems like Christmas was just a very short time ago and now barely three days it will be Easter. I mean Good Friday is just day after tomorrow. Many will be off for Spring Break.

I am still hoping that I can start on my garden next week. I want to grow veggies and flowers. I need to till the soil first and then I can start planting. This is the first time I will have my own garden.

I wanted to give fresh flowers from a personal garden this Easter to my friends but since there was such a long winter here and I didn't get to start my own garden yet, I will send flowers and I am glad there is no shortage of florists over here.
